Most Christian denominations also have a mandate to tithe. So I don't see what your point is supposed to be.
Anyway the article gives percentages of income, not dollar amounts, so Obama could just as easily give 14% 20 years ago, regardless of his income.
But I think usually with politicians they only contribute to charity or what have you when they know the amount is going to be disclosed. Then they go from selfish cheapskates to generous benefactors, like Kerry and Biden.
Or Obama.
how do you figure.. if he was making 100,000 a year 20 years ago.. it's a hell of alot harder to give 14%/$14,000.. but when you start to make more money and can breath a little easier, then you can donate more.. I mean, that's not even hard to figure out..
