I don't know why this wasn't anywhere on the local news last week:

Quote
GAINESVILLE, Florida — A controversial US evangelical preacher oversaw the burning of a copy of the Koran in a small Florida church after finding the Muslim holy book "guilty" of crimes.

The burning was carried out by pastor Wayne Sapp under the supervision of Terry Jones, who last September drew sweeping condemnation over his plan to ignite a pile of Korans on the anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks.

Sunday's event was presented as a trial of the book in which the Koran was found "guilty" and "executed."

The jury deliberated for about eight minutes. The book, which had been soaking for an hour in kerosene, was put in a metal tray in the center of the church, and Sapp started the fire with a barbecue lighter.

The book burned for around 10 minutes while some onlookers posed for photos.

Jones had drawn trenchant condemnation from many people, including US President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, over his plan to burn the Muslim holy book in September.

He did not carry out his plan then and vowed he never would, saying he had made his point.

But this time, he said he had been "trying to give the Muslim world an opportunity to defend their book," but did not receive any answer.

He said he felt that he couldn't have a real trial without a real punishment.

The result of his actions?

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan — Stirred up by a trio of angry mullahs who urged them to avenge the burning of a Koran at a Florida church, thousands of protesters overran the compound of the United Nations in this northern Afghan city, killing at least 12 people, Afghan and United Nations officials said.

The dead included at least seven United Nations workers — five Nepalese guards and two Europeans, one of them a woman. None were Americans. Early reports, later denied by Afghan officials, said that at least two of the dead had been beheaded. Five Afghans were also killed.

The attack was the deadliest for the United Nations in Afghanistan since 11 people were killed in 2009, when Taliban suicide bombers invaded a guesthouse in Kabul. It also underscored the latent hostility toward the nine-year foreign presence here, even in a city long considered to be among the safest in Afghanistan — so safe that American troops no longer patrol here in any numbers.

Unable to find Americans on whom to vent their anger, the mob turned instead on the next-best symbol of Western intrusion — the nearby United Nations headquarters. “Some of our colleagues were just hunted down,” said a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Kieran Dwyer, confirming that the attack.

Jones comments:

"We must hold these countries and people accountable for what they have done as well as for any excuses they may use to promote their terrorist activities.... It is time that we call these people to accountability."

WTF?

Can we hold Jones accountable for the deaths of these UN workers? Can we ship his crazy ass over to Afghanistan and let them take care of him?

Will we hold Jones accountable for the deaths of our Americans in Afghanistan when muslims (rightfully) hunt them down and kill them?

It's weird that those rioters in Afghanistan knew about this Koran burning before we did.

they knew because he posted the burning on his website..  and added muslim subtext just to make sure they saw it..

But when Jones announced in January that he was going to “put the Koran on trial,” he said he didn’t hear a single complaint. On March 20, Jones dressed in a judicial robe and ordered a copy of the Koran to be torched in a portable fire pit.

“It’s like people forgot about us,” Jones said Saturday. “But we kept doing what we do.”

seems like for once, our press might have done the 'responsible thing' and  ignored him.. of course, he wasn't having any of that..

But in the end, his desire to shed light on what he calls a “dangerous book” won out. The Koran was burned in a spectacle streamed live on the Internet. To reach out to Muslims overseas, Jones included Arabic subtitles.

“For some of them,” he said, “it could be an awakening.”

Although there was initially little talk of the burning in the United States, the death threats poured in, Jones said. Last Monday, he said, the FBI told him over the telephone that a $2.4 million bounty had been placed on his head in Pakistan.

now, why can't he be held responsible for those deaths? Had he yelled 'fire' in a crowed room and 15 people were trampled, he could be held responsible.. right?

is it because of the 'religious' part.. the 1st Amendment part.. or that they were foreigners on foreign soil part?

either way.. I don't really want my tax money being shuttled to his gov't security/threat investigation detail..

reap what you sow bitch.

Ok. I can understand that. Seeing as how it is a local story and the local media was all over it back when, I was just surprised there was no mention of it...

Until yesterday. I guess the media reads our forum!  Grin

My point exactly. He's no different than the getaway driver in a bank robbery where someone's killed, or any other kind of collateral damage shooting.

Put the fucker on a plane and drop him over the biggest fuckin' mosque in Afghanistan, no better yet - Iran!
