Title: Mitt Romney: Candidate of the 1%

Obviously, not. I can see now how much the Republicans (http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/the-buzz-florida-politics/content/robert-trigaux-column-look-close-rich-and-really-rich-who-want-be-president), including the Tea Party Caucus (http://popculturedoneright.smfforfree.com/index.php/topic,1077.0.html), merely represent the 1% and the banks.

Quote
Every one of the leading contenders in the Republican presidential primary is a millionaire. That level of wealth seems standard these days for anyone seeking the nation's highest public office.

But Mitt Romney's personal net worth, valued at close to a quarter-billion dollars, makes his wealthy Republican competitors, as well as President Barack Obama, look like paupers.

To help capture the magnitude of this difference, consider this. For every $100 personally owned by Romney, President Obama has $4.20, Newt Gingrich has $2.70 and Ron Paul has $2. And Rick Santorum, closely trailing a victorious Romney in last week's Iowa caucus, has but a single buck.

Romney's estimated $250 million makes him the third-richest candidate to run for the White House in the past 20 years. Only third-party candidate Ross Perot, a Texas billionaire who made his money building a technology business, and Steve Forbes, who inherited much of his wealth from father Malcolm Forbes and Forbes magazine, were richer candidates. Neither Perot nor Forbes, of course, won their elections despite such deep pockets.

Why should we care in the 2012 presidential race? Because we are watching the start of a campaign cycle populated by rich and, in Romney's case, extremely rich candidates at the same time that the United States is embroiled in a growing public debate about income inequality. U.S. wealth has become so skewed in this country that the wealthiest 25 percent of American households control nearly 90 percent of the nation's assets.

With all the right wing posturing over this obvious fact, why isn't the so-called Liberal Media concentrating on the truth? It's even so obvious that even Romney (http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/01/mitt-romney-dont-run-for-office-if-you-need-the-salary.php) admits only the rich should run for office!

Quote
“I happened to see my dad run for governor when he was 54 years old,” Romney said. “He had good advice to me. He said never get involved in politics if you have to win election to pay a mortgage. If you find yourself in a position when you can serve, you ought to have a responsibility to do so if you think you can make a difference, and don’t get involved in politics when your kids are still young because it may turn their heads.”

This, my friends, is what we call an Out-of-Touch Elitist!

Umm, yeah (http://news.bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/view/20220109romney_i_like_being_able_to_fire_people/srvc=home&position=recent)!

Quote
GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney — who has based his campaign on his sometimes controversial record as a corporate czar — sparked a furor today with the remark that he likes “being able to fire people.”

The former Bay State governor was discussing health insurance when he said that insurers give fairer prices if they know they will be held accountable.

“It also means that if you don’t like what they do, you can fire them. I like being able to fire people who provide services to me,” Romney said.
The remark comes as Romney is fighting new claims from his Republican rivals that he is a ruthless corporate “raider” who is out of touch with the common man.

The campaign went into defense mode immediately after the event, pumping up “Life Is a Highway” at ear-splitting decibels as reporters scrambled to interview those at the breakfast and Romney hurried from the room.

Romney, who is the front-runner in New Hampshire, emphasized earlier during the breakfast that he had worked his way to the top.

Some people imagine that I just went directly to the top positions ... I started off, actually, at the entry level,” he told the Nashua Chamber of Commerce this morning at the Radisson Hotel as voters prepare to weigh in on the first in the nation primary tomorrow.

I understand what Mitt was saying, that he had no problem firing who he felt was unproductive...BUT the glee that seemed to ooze off his lips in the process, didn't sound like someone who took no pleasure in firing people, even slackers...but an individual who seems to revel in it.

That, I did not like...at all.

What bothers me the most is how utterly fake he is,while trying as hard as he can to be 'real'.. It's not just his 'wealth', it's everything. His 'gosh-golly I don't know' attitude makes him look, not only retarded, but deceptive.

The wealth is the biggest thing tho. He said the other day that he was just like all the good people in the crowd who were worried about getting 'pink slips'.. wtf? Besides him having an assload of money, he fired people for a living. He didn't make his money building things, he made them by coming into a company and firing people.. but he wants to run so far away from that that he's totally ingenuous and it drives me nuts. I just want to smack him and tell him he's the GOP candidate for God's sake, his people LOVE free-market money, they live for the kind of business man he is.. even creating him with their policies..So stop wearing 'dad jeans' dude, it's not you and it never will be..you are Rich "Uncle" Pennybags (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Uncle_Pennybags), OWN IT for Christ's sake! You do not know what its like to really be fired, you can not understand where the 'common man' is coming from so stop trying to act like you do..

grrrrrr

I've had to fire people before. Regardless of the reasons, I never, ever took joy in the act. How can people be so heartless?
