Title: It's not a person when it's going to cost you..
Post by: ekg on January 26, 2013, 12:03:40 pm
Holy Wow.. the catholic church, to defend itself in a wrongful-death claim, argued in court twin fetus' were not 'persons' because they were not born when they and the mother died..

and after making their argument.. they won...

Quote
Canon City, Colorado (CNN) -- Life begins at conception, according to the Catholic Church, but in a wrongful death suit in Colorado, a Catholic health care company has argued just the opposite.

A fetus is not legally a person until it is born, the hospital's lawyers have claimed in its defense. And now it may be up to the state's Supreme Court to decide.

...

...

The court agreed with the argument, and Stodghill lost the suit. The court also ruled against Stodghill in the case of his wife for other legal reasons.

whoa..

I mean.. whoa..

and get this... the catholic church then sued the father for bringing them to court for killing his wife and 'non-persons'.. and fucking won!!

Quote
The hospital and doctors then sued him for over $118,000 legal fees and attempted to garnish his wages, according to a legal document filed on his behalf.

after all the bullshit Obama's been getting from the church.. after all the bullshit pro-choice people have had to put up with (which I will make a new topic on Rick Scott's new plan in a minute).. after all the clinic bombing,doctor-killings,wailing,crying and 'baby-killer' signs... the church uses a pro-choice idea in court as their defense and fucking wins?!?

granted, they used the law because the state law says a fetus is not a person.. http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/26/us/colorado-fetus-lawsuit/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

but the church and pro-life proponents have been against this idea for 40 years now...

Has there ever been such hypocrisy? Can they turn around and argue a fetus is a person tomorrow? What are the legal ramification of this I wonder? It's got to benefit the pro-choice side..right?

I guess money really does trump all when even the Catholic Church argues in court, and possibly all the ay up to the state supreme court, that a fetus isn't a person..

color me shocked.

Hypocrisy to protect money or from wrong doing? Shocker indeed (end sarcasm). If you asked me prior to this case, if I thought the Catholic Church would have gone down this road or allowed this as their defense to save face...I would have likely said No.  But...it doesn't surprise me as much as it should.

The only absolutes in the Church (or any religion) are the ones they decide are absolutes, until they make some new ones or need to bend an old one temporarily (and often) to facilitate whatever other hypocrisy they're defending at the moment.
