Title: About That Republican Outreach To Hispanics? Post by: Howey on March 29, 2013, 06:43:27 pm This idiot (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2013/03/29/187241/alaska-congressman-calls-farm.html) must not have got the memo.
Quote Rep. Don Young's use of an ethnic slur to describe the California farmworkers who picked tomatoes for his father threatens to become an embarrassment for a Republican Party trying to court Latino voters. In a radio interview in Ketchikan Tuesday, Young, R-Alaska, called the workers "wetbacks." [...] "I used to own - my father had a ranch. We used to hire 50 to 60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes. You know it takes two people to pick the same tomatoes now. It's all done by machine." Title: Re: About That Republican Outreach To Hispanics? Post by: ekg on March 30, 2013, 08:45:40 pm he's 79 and from Alaska.. I think he can be forgiven.. not saying it was OK.. but he grew up in a different era.. he could have easily said "those young bucks used to work the fields all day long" and it would have been just as "OMG" but also as understandable coming from an 80 year old.. idk.. maybe not. .. |
