Title: Why They Want To Defund Obamacare Post by: Howey on September 25, 2013, 10:04:13 am Could it be because it will be a success (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/25/obamacare-premiums_n_3984979.html)? It's really a no-brainer. The republicans are so against it because they know it will work.
Quote The health insurance exchanges, marketplaces for uninsured people and consumers who don't get health benefits from their employers, are scheduled to launch on Oct. 1 for an enrollment period that runs through the end of March for 2014 coverage. This latest analysis of what the health insurance plans will cost comes just six days before people will be able to find out what they'll actually pay. "For millions of Americans, these new options will finally make health insurance work within their budget," Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said during a conference call with reporters Tuesday. Reporters were provided access to the report prior to its publication. The figures released by the Department of Health and Human Services represent averages and prices will vary widely by geographic location as well as family size, age, tobacco use and income. Even the average price of a so-called bronze plan, designed to cover 60 percent of medical expenses not counting monthly premiums, masks big variation. The average price of the cheapest bronze plan in Minnesota is $144 while in Wyoming, comparable coverage costs $425 on average, not including subsides. For people who currently are uninsured and who qualify for financial assistance or enrollment in Medicaid, the federal-state health program for the poor, the average prices look to be low: 56 percent of uninsured will be able to get coverage for less than $100 a month per person, Gary Cohen, director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, said during the conference call. The report cited examples of families and individuals who could qualify for subsidized coverage that would greatly reduce its cost, and Cohen said some low-income people will even be able to obtain a bronze plan with no monthly premium because of the subsidies. Title: Re: Why They Want To Defund Obamacare Post by: uselesslegs on September 25, 2013, 04:18:46 pm It's a shame when John McCain has to explain on the house floor how democracy works to a fellow Republican.
"We fought as hard as we could in a fair and honest manner and we lost," McCain said. "One of the reasons was because we were in the minority, and in democracies, almost always the majority governs and passes legislation." McCain said he "was extremely proud" of the anti-Obamacare effort by lawmakers and said they shouldn't "give up our efforts to repair Obamacare," but said it wasn't worth shutting down the government." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/25/john-mccain-ted-cruz_n_3989887.html#comments (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/25/john-mccain-ted-cruz_n_3989887.html#comments) Note that McCain states, "repair Obamacare", meaning he knows that in a democracy, it passed by a majority and while he doesn't agree with portions or most of the ACA, he will work towards offering suggestions for changes he feels will make it better or less onerous or whatever his misgivings are...and not throwing a tantrum about shutting down the Government, like Cruz (and others of like mind) who don't like how democracy worked *this time.* So all Cruz (and those against it) have left are pounding the crap out of parts that aren't necessarily to everyone's liking AND flooding any media outlet that will give them 5 seconds to tout outright lies, misinformation and misconceptions. A new polls out, showing more than a majority of Americans are unsure or possibly against the ACA now...and I'm SURE that poll isn't ANY reflection of the lies, misinformation and misconceptions that have been making the rock star rounds. /*end sarcasm* What'd I'd REALLY be interested in knowing is, of all those polled for this...how many had an actual understanding of what's in the ACA and how it will or will not affect them. Using the same tactic, the opposition during President Obama's first run, made sure that Single Payer was akin to socialist hell, where the free market would wither and die...and where it wouldn't be allowed even for an ounce of consideration. Now? "Why the fuck wasn't Single Payer an option!?!?" Oi. Title: Re: Why They Want To Defund Obamacare Post by: 44nutman on September 25, 2013, 04:49:36 pm There is no modern country on earth with a health care system that has no government intervention.
It is sad when you own doctor tells you to get your prescriptions filled in Canada. Corporate greed is why our health care sucks. See graph below. (http://www.accessrx.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/viagra-price-graph.jpg) The price of Viagra 3 times more expensive than it was in 1998. Viagra does not save any lives but will give you a 4 hour boner.
