Contrary to popular belief, I don't think he lied. After all, he was too busy hiding his Kenyan birth and Communist father from America. What he said at the time was true. Why? Because, at that time, people with plans they liked were able to keep them as they were grandfathered (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/11/11/fact-check-keeping-your-health-plan/3500187/) in as long as the plan met some minimal requirements. Quote Grandfathered health plans do not have to meet all of the law's new coverage requirements. But in order to be grandfathered, health plans must have existed on March 23, 2010. Those with individual grandfathered plans had to have them before the law took effect. And to maintain their grandfathered status, the plans must not be changed to cut benefits or significantly raise prices for consumers through deductibles or co-pays. So that leaves everyone else with a plan obtained after March 23, 2010. Obama didn't lie. He's just not suspicious enough to see that insurance companies would start canceling policies that should have been grandfathered in...he thought they would follow the law. There was no way to keep my existing plan because it no longer existed. that is true for every policy. Yeah, you can keep your existing policy, until the end of your policy year.

Sometimes to my benefit a tad bit, sometimes to my detriment, but more money was always involved, either way.
Why news agencies aren't hammering home the fact that anyone who got their plans after the 2010 deadline or that the insurance companies themselves chose to cancel policies rather than add in the new standards, is beyond me. but he did fuck up by promising people something he couldn't deliver.. so he deserves 'some' wrist slapping.
