Title: Struggling to Make Ends Meet
Post by: Howey on March 31, 2011, 12:31:59 pm
Rep. Sean Duffy, (R) WI, replying to a question from the husband of a schoolteacher; wondering if he's willing to take a cut in pay: (http://thinkprogress.org/2011/03/29/rep-sean-duffy-complains-about-his-salary/)

Duffy, of Real World infamy, makes a congressional salary of $174,000 per session, plus government health care, a retirement system better than just about everyone, and other bennies.

Quote
Constituent: But a hundred and seventy-four thousand, that’s three times — that’s three of my family’s — three times what I make.

Duffy: Well our budget…I moved to cut by 5 percent. I did. You know what, I have no problem..let’s have a movement afoot. I walked into this job 6 weeks ago..um that I worked incredibly hard for. And I can guarantee you or most of you, I guarantee that I have more debt than all of you.

With 6 kids, I still pay off my student loans. I still pay my mortgage. I drive a used minivan. If you think I’m living high off the hog, I’ve got one paycheck. So I..I struggle to meet my bills right now. Would it be easier for me if I get more paychecks? Maybe, but at this point I’m not living high off the hog.

Poor dear...

The Republican Party, knowing Duffy had made an ass of himself, tried to squelch the video of his words...

First the Republican Party in Polk County, Wisconsin, pulled the tape of Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) fretting about making ends meet on his $174,000 a year salary from its own website. Now they want it gone from the whole Internet.

For a couple hours, the local county GOP was successful. But we've put an excerpt of the video back up.

A day after TPM posted the video we obtained of Duffy talking about his salary at a Polk County town hall meeting earlier this year, the Polk County GOP contacted the video provider we used to host the video, Blip.tv, and demanded the video be taken down.

Video at link.

I saw that  video the other day on one of the night shows..

so let's break this down..

$174,000/52=3346 a week..

or about 14,400 a month..

if you can't 'get by' with that kind of fucking money, the maybe you don't need to be deciding a state or countries finances/budget because you obviously have no clue how to budget your own life..

no fuck that, I've lived off of $1680 a month in recent years.. I did it with kids, a car, a mortgage and all the same bills as anyone else.. was it easy? fuck no! Did some things get left behind? Fuck yes!  But for these fucking people to sit there and tell me they simply can't live off a weekly income that is 3 times my monthly income, a monthly income that is just about my yearly income.. they're infuckingsane and what's wrong with this country.

If they can't survive on more money per year then I'll see in 10, then they shouldn't be figuring out a budget..

simple as that.

tell me how much money I have and I'll figure out what to pay for with it.. you won't like it, but it'll damn well be spent better than these assholes would spend it.. they don't have a clue. We need elected officials who do..

I would ask...take the vid down for what reason?...especially in a demanding tone.  Does it break any laws?  Does it depict conversation that did not take place?  Was it edited?  Was it taken out of context?

Ummmm, no, no, no, and no.

How can he, "guarantee that I have more debt than all of you."...?  Does he know everyone in the crowd gathered there?  Is he familiar with their debt?  What a complete dumb ass, seriously.  SO he's basically admitting he's irresponsible and put himself in a position of debt...even well meaning or with goals in mind...but still put himself in financial straights with student loans, 6 children and that's just what he was willing to convey...what else ya got Rep. Duffy?  What else makes you so entirely different than the rest of your constituents, that they should eat shit in pay cuts, joblessness, unaffordable health care, and you deserve to avoid that?

Duffy merely echoed what our political figures think, but will never utter aloud.  Even they know the insane hypocrisy of going anywhere near that conversation and trying to justify why they're better than and or more deserving, while they ask sacrifice of everyone else.

I say, if you can't make ends meet on 174,000 a year, 14, 400 a month...you've already lost touch with the bulk of the people you're suppose to represent.

6 children

Why? Why 6 kids? Why do they feel the need to create more snotty republican children when there's already too many mouths to feed?

Duffy merely echoed what our political figures think, but will never utter aloud.

Precisely why they're running around like chickens with their heads cut off...
