The vote is aimed at demonstrating that such a measure cannot pass the House, increasing pressure on President Obama and Senate Democrats to accept deep spending cuts in exchange for authorizing the Treasury to borrow more than the $14.3 trillion current limit. GOP leaders informed members of the House conference of the plan at a meeting this morning, a spokeswoman for Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told The Hill. Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said he had introduced the necessary legislation on Tuesday. "The legislation I filed today will allow the House to reject a clean increase in the debt limit, proving to the American people, the financial markets and the administration that we are serious about tackling our debt and deficit problems," he said in a statement. The downward spiral of a culture immersed in a debt and credit paradigm doesn't start getting better by creating more imaginary money. The dollar is heading toward no longer being the international standard according to recent signals and statements from China and others(over at least the last couple years). I don't understand why the US continues to spend billions in aid every year when we don't have the money. Why is it that Bush got just about everything he ever wanted regardless of who was in control but it's not that way now with Obama. Not saying that I would necessarily have wanted him to but I thought he missed a window of opportunity in the first 6 months or so when he had the 'mandate'. The Dem's are so afraid of being labeled 'anti-war', 'anti-capitalism', 'anti-free trade' 'pro-terrorist'...that they cave in on any GOP/Borg issue. The joke has always been "How will the Dem's screw this up"... we saw it in 2008/10 when they had the house/senate/oval office. Dems come in varying degrees.. some are very liberal some are almost to the right of Sarah Palin in the conservative-ness.. so to round them up is like rounding up a bunch of feral cats. otoh, the GOP act like the Borg.. a singular mind, with a singular mission.. and that makes them much more powerful regardless of whether they are in the majority or not. The GOP do not take kindly when one of their own is not supporting the message 100%. The latest example is when Newt criticized Ryan's plan to cut Medicare. The right were fighting each other to get on FOX to blast Newt for thinking on his own. Then Newt made a huge mistake, backtracked and tried to play stupid.
