Looks like our judge is quite the bigot!

http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2011/01/31/vinson-frc/

Quote
But a closer read of his analysis reveals something peculiar. In fact, as Vinson himself admits in Footnote 27 (on pg. 65), he arrived at this conclusion by “borrow[ing] heavily from one of the amicus briefs filed in the case for it quite cogently and effectively sets forth the applicable standard and governing analysis of severability (doc. 123).” That brief was filed by the Family Research Council, which has been branded as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

“The Family Research Council (FRC) bills itself as ‘the leading voice for the family in our nation’s halls of power,’ but its real specialty is defaming gays and lesbians,” SPLC says. Indeed, so-called FRC “experts” (who most recently lobbied to preserve Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell) have argued that “gaining access to children” “has been a long-term goal of the homosexual movement” and claimed that “
  • ne of the primary goals of the homosexual rights movement is to abolish all age of consent laws and to eventually recognize pedophiles as the ‘prophets of a new sexual order.” FRC President Tony Perkins has even described pedophilia as a “homosexual problem.”

I liked his shout out to the tea party...

if it wasn't for 'activist' judges, the GOP wouldn't have any judges at all would they? Funny how they don't seem to mind those activist right now..

it's messed up that even in our courts this comes down to what your political upbringing is.. 2 dem judges allowed it, 2 rep judges denied it... looks like it's going to the supreme court and that will split 4/4 with Kennedy being the swing vote.

MSNBC made a great point last night.. 60 some-odd million voters,150+ house of reps members,60 senators all democratically voted this into law and it still comes down to one man who wasn't elected..

and yet we want to tell every else to become a 'democracy'..  Roll Eyes yeah sure.

I love how some people would have this gov't force a woman or little girl to carry the offspring of the man who raped her.. be it her father,brother,uncle.. or stranger.. but can't stand to have the gov't make people pay their own way in life.. it is a bizarre-o world indeed when the GOP is for free-gov't tit-sucking welfare..

there are 2 more great ironies here..

one, the mandate was never part of the original plan. the dems were against it. (even this judge noted Obama's wavering of it, which is odd in itself, what does a candidate's campaign rhetoric have to do with any legal decision, but thanks for the precedent mr.activist judge, I'm sure that will come in handy in the future).. anyway,  the mandate was added in because it's GOP idea, and was a way to get GOP support. There is no getting something for nothing, no 'welfare queen' sucking off the system, Romney did it, Dole asked for it, it's a creation of the other side and was given to them as a peace offering (like there is any compromise with the fundamentalist GOP'er).. and yet, it could be it's undoing.. how ironic

the other is.. if just this part(the mandate) is stricken then we'll undoubtedly get that 'public option'..  with no one being made to buy insurance AND still having to cover pre-existing conditions.. insurance companies will go bankrupt because everyone will just drop their coverage until they are sick.. and they(insurance companies) won't have the money to cover them(the sick). So when they go belly up, that will force the gov't to come in a cover the costs..

whoo hoo.. point scored for Obama-medicare-for-all.. Thanks GOP!

and I'll add moo here. I'd kinda like to see the days and weeks after the supreme's renounce this law as unconstitutional.. image that meltdown.. kids being booted off parents plan, cancer babies being booted off because they had that cancer in the womb and that's preexisting as you know, all pre-existing patients being kicked off, business' canceling plans because no more tax credit, premiums rising overnight  and every single person who in any way benefited from the law being billed for the coverage that they had that poor, defenseless insurance company paid for "unconstitutionally'..

ahhh yes.. talk about getting medicare-for-all in about a minute.... and this could happen during the 2012 campaign season.. HA! Both sides would have to deal with that issue and both would 'out medicare-for-all' each other.. if this was from the GOP I'd say it was a great plan.. but since it's from the Dems and they couldn't 'plan' their way out of a paper bag.. I'll just say the GOP should remember that sometimes they get just exactly what they ask for but most times you're not always happy with what you got. Wink..

I think it's fucking hilarious that the party that started the 'welfare queen' myth that has ingrained itself on the psyche of every member of their party to the point where they don't get that those sucking gov't tit also include medicare/social security folk.. the same party who whines all day long that if you do something for the good of this country, someone, somewhere may get something they did not pay for or did not deserve so let's kill it all... is the same party who now wants the one piece of legislation that ensures no one gets something for nothing removed from the bill.

wtf is right Sarah. wtf do you want to give that gov't tit to people who didn't earn it?

these people are so transparent..they don't have a modicum of legitimacy anymore.. I would respect them more if they'd just admit that this healthcare opposition is really just their last bastion of 'class warfare'.. atleast there is nobility in  truthiness...
1938  Politikal / Welcome to Bizarro Amerika! / Re: Florida Leading the Rush to Stupidity on: January 31, 2011, 09:06:32 am
we are truly headed for a generation of armed and stupid.

these people see ghosts and ghouls under their beds at night and now they get to infect the rest of us with their paranoia... I've seen too many good GOP'ers fall victim to the retards out there running the show (or commenting on it) and it's sickening.. I wish those in the that party were allowed to think for themselves on these issues but for whatever reason, swimming along with the masses is in their by-laws..

maybe it's a fear/comfort thing. .. no need to think for yourself when it's much better to let the community-mind think for you..

seriously, wtf is wrong  with a doctor giving out gun safety information to parents?  these people don't want less gov't.. they want more gov't than the mullah's want. they want gov't in every aspect of your life, health, death, and bedroom.. mind your own fucking buisness and let doctors and patients be doctors and patients.. and if the doc's questioning is insulting, then let the 'free market' weed him out for Christ's sake..

sheesh, free-market this, free-market that.. but oh, let's make the gov't interfere in the paper-work..

dolts, all of them..

I'm sorry to say that I have been moving and I haven't seen any tv since Thursday really..  this does seem to be a mess though.. do we support the guy who has been there for 30 yrs and 'wink-wink' elected each time? or do we hope that real democracy takes over?

Egypt has a very conservative Muslim streak just under the surface and if that takes over, we're in for a whole new world..

Moving? Obama bought you a home?  Wink

HA!

noo..  got this one on my own Wink

Mubarek has been a dictator too long and the people have spoken. I've always said (hell, since Vietnam) when the people want change, change will happen. I don't think the Egyptian people will allow the Muslim Brotherhood to take over the government, although it's obvious lilMike's convinced that'll happen.

I sent him a msg on his blog to join this discussion. Maybe he will....

It's an interesting thing to watch and think about. It would be great to have a more democratic leader in the region, but I still don't know if the people are ready for such a leader. It seems they do better under the guys that aren't evil, but maybe a little on the 'dictator-Y' side of things..
one thing that would bring about the wrong kind of change is to go all Kent-state on all the protesters... that will incite more and definitely bring out the class of leaders we don't want to see take over..

no matter what, it's got to be a pretty tight line Obama in walking on right now..

The Velvet StraitJacket

Lil Mike and I try to give everyone from both sides of the political spectrum something to chew on..spit at.. or just plain wonder "what the fuck are they talking about" at.... While most of our stuff is political, we also have a sprinkling of 'news of the day' topics and soon I'll have a section dedicated to short stories.. fictional, non-fictional or somewhere in between..

We’ve both searched high and low and while there are great blogs out there that offer you the ‘right’ slant of the story..or the ‘left’ slant of the story.. there are none that offer you both sides of the story the way we are able to. Hubris? Yes.. Undeserved? No… We have done this kind of thing together for over 10 years now, there is simply no one better at it than we are. We may not see eye to eye on much of anything ... but we agree that we are goddamn good at what we do.
