Remember President Obama's
jobs bill that died in the Senate last fall?
I know...I don't either. It was just another of many bills designated to improve the economy that went nowhere after the usual Republican obstructionism. But here's a quick refresher course on it:
President Obama made an impassioned appeal on Thursday night for $447 billion in tax cuts and government spending to boost the nation’s lagging economic recovery, calling on lawmakers to put politics aside and work together to solve the jobs crisis.
Before a joint session of Congress, the president announced a package of tax cuts for employers and employees, spending on schools and roads, aid to states to keep teachers in jobs, and assistance for the unemployed.
Prepare to hear more about this bill again. It may just be the October Surprise everyone anticipates each election cycle that rarely shows up.
Why?
Former President Clinton made a brief mention of it last night during his speech:
Last year the Republicans blocked the president’s job plan, costing the economy more than a million new jobs.
Know what? It's a legitimate claim. Even
FactCheck.org says so.
Two independent economists —
Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics and Joel Prakken of Macroeconomics Advisers — had estimated that Obama’s proposed American Jobs Act would add more than 1 million jobs. Zandi claimed it would add 1.9 million jobs; Prakken 1.3 million. Senate Republicans blocked the $447 billion measure, and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell denounced it as “a charade that’s meant to give Democrats a political edge” in 2012.
We need to get the word out. Instead of racist diatribes on Political Forum or childish name calling on JPP, copy/paste the above and post there.
Let those on the right know that we know who's keeping America from working.
