My dad passed away a few years ago and the only thing I wanted from his estate was his books, He had hundreds of them. I've been going through them the past few days and picking out the ones I don't wish to keep. Instead of just throwing them in the trash, I take them to a used book store. They pay me for the ones they are able to sell on their shelves and they recycle the rest.
I already have more than 10 bookshelves of my own books, so I'm thinking of going through those books and examining which ones I'll keep.
The complicating factor is that I'm a "pack rat" and hate getting rid of my stuff.

So sorry. It's a real jolt when people pass away so close to each other.

Howie, would you be able to move this thread to my Reading Corner section?

So, here are the factors I have in mind when deciding whether to keep a book. 1. Do I want to eventually read it? 2. Have I read it already and really enjoyed it? 3. Does it have some information in it that I might eventually use? I preach once every other month at a rest home, so I keep a good many theological books. Also, I love reference books, but I'd never be reading those all the way through. 4. Will it look great on my bookshelves when I have an entire room filled with floor to ceiling bookcases? Yes, I do actually keep books for that reason, but the older I get, the less likely it is that I will ever own a house with such a room.
