According to the story the gas can on the family porch was used. Why is it still there and not police evidence?
Reading some of the comments I get the impression ther's not a lot of love for blacks around there. So why did the police deny it was a hate crime?
I don't know..but it doesn't surprise me because I've seen this debate before... a black on white crime, obviously a 'hate crime', but not classified as such because many people don't consider a minority attacking a non-minority to be a hate crime.. They believe that it can only be 'hate' if it's non-minority attacking minority... Just like a gay person attacking a straight person and calling him/her 'breeder' while attacking them wouldn't be considered a hate crime either.. even though it is straight up the definition of one...
It's a old debate on whether 'blacks' or other minorities can be classified as 'racists'... I think they can, since by definition hating someone for their race, whether that is non-minority or not, is racism.. but I have seen the argument that there isn't any such a thing as black hating white=racism, because I guess blacks are allowed to hate whites because of slavery and civil rights.Personally, I think that's bullshit, but unfortunately, others don't.
local PD aren't going to step into that kind of hornet's nest by making that call either, especially if there is already racial tensions..
