We need fights like these. It's wholly and completely unfortunate and bullshit, but we need them. Howey, Nutty, EKG, myself represent a very small portion of the U.S. that is even somewhat informed, politically and domestically. The larger percentage are just average citizens, leading their average lives, who have little interest in most things beyond the nightly news. We need things like this to blow up so they register on the radar of these average Americans, who otherwise are under the impression that life and progress are proceeding forward. It's the only way to get their attention.
"This is an issue? In the 21st century? Why and when did this happen? What is going on?" I can't tell you how many people I talk to on a regular basis who are uninformed about some pretty basic politics (on either side of the aisle) as well as state and federal policy that can or will affect them and their family.
They need a giant neon heads up to get their attention. These aren't dumb people, they're people who just assume policy and legislation is being made with their best interests in mind. They can't conceive that policy would be purposely proposed to hurt them financially or to halt progress, stagnate it, or take us backwards.
If I could thank President Obama for anything, it would be that by his mere presence in the Oval Office, he's exposing the average American to the underbelly of the country that is alive and well and still carries quite a bit of authority and power. What's going on in N.C. is just one of many examples of the head scratching legislation that's becoming so pervasive across the country. The average American NEEDS to see this. They need to be exposed and understand how ludicrous, and quite frankly scary, it's becoming.
They may not connect all the dots, but we need them to be involved.
