I mean, there’s something pathetic about it. I’ve found it really distasteful. I mean I myself am socially conservative on the marriage issue but even if you’re not, just say what you believe and let the country decide…. This kind of pathetic attempt of ‘Oh my god, young people especially are liberal so let’s just rush to cater to them.’ As if they’re going to respect you if you just embrace the views of some 26-year-old who doesn’t know anything honestly. Gee, this TV show is popular so let’s just throw over thousands of years of history and what the great religions teach and let’s just embrace it because, hey, you don’t want to be on the other side from a TV show that has 20 million viewers. I mean, really, that’s what a serious political party does?

No wonder there's so few young republicans. Except the very, very stupid ones.

This recent argument, or line of defense of opposite gender marriage, using tradition as the reasoning...is crap.

Things throughout our thousands of years of community, society and cultures as they pertained to *tradition* have changed.  Slavery was around a hell of a lot longer (evidence shows it predates written language) than the Hebrew, Christian and Muslim tradition/interpretation of marriage.  That changed for most of the world...and BOOM...sky didn't fall.  Hell the bible even tells you how to treat your slaves, not free them, so we definitely went against the divine grain on that one...and survive, we did.  Hell, Marriage itself predates established religion and it's primary function as a tool of social or business contract and inheritance has changed drastically.

If the argument is the church/religion itself never condoned gay marriage...I would direct them to the link below and tell them to stfu.

This latest argument of *tradition* attempts to ascribe a *set in stone* definition as it pertains to marriage...which would be neat and all...minus the gay marriages blessed by the churches in YEE OLD DAYS.

People just don't understand their mores may not be the same as others. I cannot understand why Christians feel the need to be "the one" at the expense and exclusion of others.
