Tenth year Anniversary Nineth year Anniversary Eighth year Anniversary

I've seen some evidence of this in the past...someone who used to post here had a predeliction on another forum (probably still does) to post topics that quite smarmingly and sarcastically criticized women who had been raped (They wanted it!), or been harmed (They deserved it!) or were unable to make decisions on their own (They're killers!).

I honestly didn't realize the attitude was an inherent trait of the right wing, even the mainstream right wing; if there can still be anything that passes for "mainstream right wing".

Take Herman Cain (please?).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FhuhwhoDdI&feature=player_embedded

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCjscowxiBs&feature=relmfu

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b4y-CAbhCY&feature=relmfu

Without watching all the videos of Cain's appearance on Kimmel, or any other recent video of him regarding the four claims of sexual harrasment (who wants to bet they all turn out to be blond headed white women?), here's a summary:

"They're lying."

Ok. The guy who can't remember any of the instances, who says there wasn't a "settlement", there was an "agreement", who doesn't remember what one of the women looks like but stood right next to her and spoke to her at a Tea Party event five weeks ago (Bet #2: Who wants to wager Ms. Bialek's words whispered in Herman's ear were something like "I'm telling the world what you did."), can now categorically stand in front of the world and say all four women are liars?

Sure...

It's not just him. Rush Limbaugh has to get his two cents in:

Quote
“Isn’t it possible that Herman Cain is just an innocent, honest guy trying to answer these questions as best he can with the limited knowledge that he’s got? I remember when this stuff all came up, we were told women never lie about this stuff. Remember that too? ‘Women never lie about it.’ And how many instances are there of women making it up? We were told children never lie about it but they do too.”

Then there's Fox News' Greg Gutfeld:

Quote
Sexual Harassment Claims Are "Inherently Meaningless"

The National Review's John Derbyshire:

Quote
Is there anyone who thinks sexual harassment is a real thing? Is there anyone who doesn’t know it’s all a lawyers’ ramp, like “racial discrimination“? You pay a girl a compliment nowadays, she runs off and gets lawyered up. Is this any way to live?

Even a woman, Laura Ingraham agrees:

Quote
“We have seen this movie before and we know how it ends. It always ends up being an employee who can’t perform or who underperforms and is looking for a little green.”

Bob Beckel, a Fox contributor:

Quote
Fox News contributor Bob Beckel said it’s no big deal because these things happen, you know, everyday. “Let’s keep in mind that there are thousands of these things everyday, across corporate America, where people make these complaints and they get a payoff, and they call it severance, and they go away,”

There's probably a few hundred more references out there, but my point is: Where do we draw the line? Even more importantly, how the hell do women put up with this idiocy?

These guys are married to women, right? I know the guy on that other forum is, I'm pretty sure Rush is still married...Just how in the hell do these guys wifes put up with this attitude?

The simple fact is harrasment is in the eyes of the beholder, not the idiot committing the act. If a guy says something a woman thinks is inappropriate, it probably is. If a guy crams his fist up a woman's skirt, that's harrasment, if there's a five-figure settlement, oops agreement, then you damn well better believe it's harrassment...

If a guy stands in front of a woman and holds his hand in front of her, saying "My wife is just about as tall as you.", then cups the hand around the woman's breast, that's sexual harrasment.

I suspect Uncle Herman will begin to remember a hell of a lot real soon.

Yeah dude, I know exactly what you mean.

Like the last time I went into the office, I told an intern, "You totally look hot when you're researching my stories." She didn't respond, so to show how much appreciated her hotness, I gave her a love-tap on her fanny when she walked past.

Now she's all screaming "Sexual Harassment!" And dude in HR is all like, "This is a serious issue, Mr. Coates." And and I'm all like, "Bros Before Hos!" And they're all like, "Hostile Work Environment." And I'm all like, "Awesome Work Environment!" And my editors are all like, "Fireable Offense." And I'm all like, "Men get harassed, too!"  She tells me "Nice suit" and it's fine. I tell her "Nice rack" and everyone gets all law-suity.

Anyway dude, it looks like this is my last post here at The Atlantic.

Totally not cool, bro. That chick was harassing me. With her hotness.

These, and many people (sadly), are part of the culture that still can't understand that even if for whatever reason you saw a fully naked woman, with a dildo, going to town on herself...that's not an invitation.  They can't fathom it.

"If she's doing all that she's asking for it! While *I* wouldn't personally rape her, I could see where others would see that as an invitation or be provoked into action!"  Really, you could? Why? Because it got your cock hard and if your cock's hard that rearranges reality?

So MANY people thinly disguise there perception of women as things, objects whose value or worth is contingent on the moment and how they feel from second to second.  I'm no advocate, I've had my phase of objectifying...but even *I* can see that for Christ's sake.

No race or culture is immune from it.  Even those treated *differently* or *lesser than* because of pigmentation, physicality, appearance or standing do it as well.  You'd think being pushed down into societies muck would endear in them a sense of camaraderie with individuals treated similarly, for no other reason than their gender...but, it doesn't.  Many are conditioned, from very early on...to *know* that no matter how far down the societal make up you are...women are lower...and somehow, in a world that views everyone else on an imaginary rung, people either can't or won't change that dynamic.  It doesn't require deep thought or a certain level of intelligence to understand that no other difference should matter, other than how they treat everyone else and society...period.

The part that slayed me the most during Cain's press conference the other day, to specifically address the 4 (now five) allegations of sexual harassment, was his answer to the question of taking a lie detector test to prove his words as true.  "IF, I felt something merited it, sure", he said (paraphrased).  Isn't that what the whole fucking press get together was for?..to adamantly denounce the accusations?  And wouldn't the proposition of taking a lie detector test (not 100 percent accurate) at least confirm the validity of your words that you absolutely stand behind as true to many people who would accept that as evidence?  He could of said, "that's ridiculous, I don't need to do that to justify my assertions"...but HE not only walked through that opened door, he insinuated that it would confirm his innocence........THEN, he immediately walks back from it, conditionally.

What a complete load of bullshit.  As far as I'm concerned, after he assured he'd pass with flying colors a lie detector test that would corroborate his statements, but then immediately acted as if the very subject at hand wasn't part of the "merit based conditions" to take one....told me all I needed to know.  He's a fuckin liar.  What he did was no different than ole Bolling over at Fox news screaming at any number of his "5" panel that something is "true" and then asked if he had facts to back it up, yells "NO"...but it's true anyway!  Unfucking believable.

He's a fuckin liar.

Not only that, but now he's resorting to threats and intimidation to keep any more women from stepping forward:

Quote
L. Lin Wood, the lawyer hired by the Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain to fend off sexual harassment accusations, has warned that any other women who might be considering coming forward with similar allegations “should think twice.”

And he's now got a silly blog dedicated at besmirching these jezebels:

Quote
Herman Cain has made clear his position on the accusers who say he sexually harassed them — or worse — while CEO of the National Restaurant Associations: they’re liars.

Now the campaign has an entire website dedicated to driving that message home, ***CainTruth.Com. The hastily-put-together blog appears to be primarily dedicated to spreading damaging stories about the women who have come forward, especially Sharon Bialek, who has publicly accused Cain of demanding sex in exchange for help finding her work.

“Once this kind of nonsense starts, the media’s rules say you have to act in a certain way,” Cain writes in one post. “I am well aware of these rules. And I refuse to play by them.”

And what kind of evidence is Cain offering to bolster his case? Well, there’s not a lot of posts on the site yet, but the latest is about a local CBS news affiliate in Atlanta who brought in “Private investigator TJ Ward, who used software to analyze speeches by Mr. Cain and Sharon Bialek earlier this week.” The Cain campaign quotes from the CBS 46 story:

Be sure to watch the video. This guys as fucking loony as Cain! Oh...According to Open Secrets, Mr. T. J. Ward (really Terry Ward, but I guess he and Uncle Herman thought noone would figure that out) donated $250 to the Cain campaign.
Oy!

Prolly chasing moose somewhere.
About Uncle Herman's so-called test? Fake!

Quote
On Wednesday, 9 November 2011, CBS Atlanta aired an interview with private investigator T.J. Ward, who used a computer program to analyze recorded statements by Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain and Sharon Bialek, who alleges that Cain made a sexual advance on her when she sought his help getting a job. According to Ward’s software, Cain “is being truthful, totally truthful” in denying Bialek’s claim, while Bialek “is fabricating what transpired.”

Ward claimed his software cost $15,000 and has an accuracy rate of 95%. While CBS Atlanta did not disclose the name of this software, a link on Ward’s website indicates that it is Layered Voice Analysis (LVA), a program developed by Amir Liberman’s Nemesysco, Ltd., an Israeli company. This software was completely discredited by Swedish linguists Anders Eriksson and Francisco Lacerda in a 2007 article titled “Charlatanry in Speech Science: A Problem to Be Taken Seriously” (International Journal of Speech, Language and the Law, Vol. 14, No. 2). For more on LVA, see “Nemesysco Founder Amir Liberman Is a Charlatan.”

Ohh...I can't wait to see the women call his bluff! What a pussy!

Quote
Herman Cain, on Neil Cavuto's "Your World" on Fox News just now, reverted back to blaming the Rick Perry campaign for the emergence of allegations from the 1990s - and turned tables on his accusers.

"When they take a lie detector test, I'll take a lie detector test!" Cain said of the women, per POLITICO's Juana Summers.

Earlier this week, Cain had said he would be willing to take a lie detector test but saw no reason to right now.

I think that she has enough of a conscience to not be able to stomach the largely puppet position(as I see it) if she was pres.

There's something likable to me about Cain apart from politics but isn't sex stuff more of a further diversion in this instance than anything else.

Conscious or has some scruples despite her demeanor, yes. I loved that clip of Todd at that fair and someone asked him about her leaving the governor office or something like that implying how she went for the celebrity aspect, in so many words. He said to the person, "What would you do? We were several hundred thousand dollars in debt."
