as I asked before, if they revoke DADT then it goes back to the way it was before this passed in 94 which would be worse for them correct?
Correct. That's why I don't understand the rush to repeal DADT until after Congress changes the UCMJ.
I say, repeal DADT. Gay servicemembers will still be kicked out. So let the dems explain that.
they thought there was a "Witch hunt" before with DADT, just wait for it to go back to pre 94'.
But by all means, repeal DADT. I just think it could make things worse for gay servicemen.
It will make it worse because before DADT, there was no legal basis for gays to serve. Recruits were asked about their sexuality and if they out themselves or get outed later, besides the sodomy charge, they've breached their contract because they lied to get into the service. That's a dishonorable discharge. I think right now they just get a general.
That is how things were before DADT, so if you repeal DADT, that puts the legal situation right back to pre DADT. So you prefer that to DADT?
People who want DADT repealed just cant seem to wrap their pea sized brains around this because if they do not work on ammending the UCMJ then repealing it would be muche worse for those people.
There will be lots of court marshals because of gay bashing.
That's where the co-ed showers come in. Integrating openly gay troops into the services isn't like integrating black troops.
A recent [article is 2007] poll by the Military Times newspapers showed that only 30 percent of respondents think openly gay people should be allowed to serve, compared to 59 percent who are opposed. Until those numbers are reversed, "don't ask, don't tell" won't change.
