See, to me, that's more sad than scary...because Aaron is a good guy. I hate seeing people manipulated. Which is what the far right thinks liberal's/progressives are...manipulated. We can't see the forest for the trees. It's very difficult laying "manipulations" side by side and trying to make them understand, "Now see, the *manipulations* you think are being portrayed on me isn't a manipulation, I get it. You, on the other hand, got some serious Mam'ah Jam'ah going on."
Aaron can reason, once he's got the facts, that's good. Someone who believes the earth is flat or 6,000 years old as nutty said...is on a whole different level. The belief *maintains* them. It is deeeeeeepppp. They shaped their "reality" around that and other things. Their reality, their angst, their happiness, their dislikes, their loves, their hates, are all interwoven into a very fragile interconnected weave of reality...that can't take even a single thread being displaced or removed. If they're wrong about one thing, maybe they could be wrong about something else...that thought scares the ever living shit out of them on a level that we can't understand...because our reality isn't static...it's just reality. As one thought is debunked for another, we're like, "Holy shit! didn't see that one coming", we adjust and continue forward. The other people can't do that...it would literally wreck them. They can't question one thing, let alone the ripple effect it might have.
I, for one, am exceedingly happy that my mom raised me to question reality and understand that it indeed is not static. That I can be let down or even crushed that a long held thought, belief, or fact might be wrong...but that it'll be OK...I'll be OK...and that the Universe will carry on.
