Yeah...it's funny how the right gets indignant over the possibility that Obama or anyone for that matter get scholarships, grants, etc., to attend college based upon scholastic excellence but it's fine when rich boy's daddy's pay their way, regardless of intelligence.

See: George Bush.

They're too stupid to see how that's an automatic tell for their bigotry.

One reason you make money is to take care of your kids, and that includes providing them the opportunity to go to a good college.  I have no problem with that.  If I had the money my kids would have gone to Harvard, Yale, Duke, Emory, etc.  They had the intellect.  But it's not worth getting out of school and your student loan payment for a decade or more is more than a mortgage on a damn fine house.

I have no problem with that. You did well. But to demean others without money for having to depend on scholarships and/or the Pell Grant?

Not all smart kids have a George Romney or George Bush out there with empty pockets.

You're talking to someone who went to college on Pell grants, student loans and jobs.  I didn't get one single dime from my parents because they didn't have it.  In fairness to them I did get a few extra years of room and board.  A rode my mother's pale blue bike with a fuckin basket on the front it to get to school for a while.  I drove a 64 VW bug that had a floor that I riveted in because the real one was rotted out.  When I drove through the rain my feet got wet.  In the winter I froze my ass off every day driving from Daytona to Orlando every morning at typically 7 AM to get to class because it had no heat.  I eventually got the highest terminal degree one can get and did it with my own fortitude. So don't give my your pompous bullshit.  I didn't demean anyone.  I said it was OK to have successful  parents.  The money's there if you want it for anyone and who will work for it.  It also makes you a better man.  So as usual, fuck off.

you're right. That's what parents should do. The problem is the other side is whining about those who go to school on the gov't tit(grants/low-interest loans).   It should be easier to go to school for people who don't have the money to pay for it and need assistance. But they look down on the guy who only went because his brain was so awesome he got a full academic scholarship.. or the guy who had to work thru school to pay what his pell grant and loan didn't pay.. and then say stupid things like "Borrow money from your parents for college, not the gov't"..because they want to reduce pell grants and get the gov't out of the student loan business..

It's 'voting against your best interest' in the extreme..

If that attitude wins out in the end...the attitude that says higher education is only available for those that can afford it...we're so fucked.  We'll be the guys answering calls with someone from Romania making jokes about how hard we are to understand..."Fuck'in 'Mericans, speak Romania, CHRIST!"
