Wow...thanks Gov. Scott!

Quote
Why Can't I Vote?

Thirty years ago I wrote two checks totaling a little over $150. Under the laws
of Florida at that time, I was placed on felony probation for three years. I
moved to Alabama, went to college, and transferred my probation.

Two years and eleven months later, my father had a heart attack. Wanting to move
home, I asked my probation officer if I could transfer my probation to Georgia.
He informed me he would successfully terminate my probation early.

He didn't. In October of 1994, I was arrested for violation of probation and
spent 60 days in the Bay County Jail after being adjudicated guilty. Upon my
release I was told that, under Florida Law at that time, my civil rights were
automatically restored.

In the years following, I worked for the State of Florida, served jury duty,
and voted every election cycle.

Until two weeks ago, when I was informed that as a convicted felon I am not
allowed to vote. I'm a veteran who served our country during the Vietnam War,
own my own home, and pay taxes.

Until our Governor decided I couldn't vote. Why can't I vote?

I posted this on FB too. Here's what someone had to say:

I call BS on this story. First of all, who gets felony probation for simply writing checks. I've written many checks and as far as I know its not against the law. Something obviously is being left out of this part which makes me suspicious.

Secondly, if your dumb enough to get released from probation early and not ask for paperwork then frankly, your too dumb to be voting anyways. Who would get released from something like that and just go, "gosh hey thanks man," and walk away?

My response:

First of all, Florida at the time was going through a period of severe sentencing guidelines. In our working with this gentleman we've doublechecked everything, seen all related court papers, and it's all legit. But I'm sure your legal expertise trumps all, right? **rollseyes**

"832.05(2)(b) & (4)(c) 3rd Knowing, making, issuing worthless checks $150 or more or obtaining property in return for worthless check $150 or more."

Now this is when things get ignorant. His father was dying and you expect him to sit around for the clerks to prepare the paperwork? He was instructed to check in with the probation office when he moved if the probation (one month left) had been transferred. He did and it wasn't.

Finally, do you really want to say:

"Secondly, if your dumb enough to get released from probation early and not ask for paperwork then frankly, your too dumb to be voting anyways. Who would get released from something like that and just go, "gosh hey thanks man," and walk away?"

That sure does limit the field of eligible voters, huh? Pretty much disqualifies all Teabaggers, for sure. And Ron Paul supporters...I mean, who'd be dumb enough to support a senile old man with no chance of being elected? Palin supporters? Let's not go there, ok? Smiley

While we're at it, can we just disqualify your vote?

"your too dumb to be voting anyways"

earn the rule: your / you're

your is a possessive adjective, indicating ownership of something
That is your sock.
Where is your potato?
you're is a contraction (combination) of you and are
Do you know what you're doing?
You're stupid.
The two are not interchangeable.
Getting it wrong makes you look stupid. And ugly

Look. This guy is a disabled vet. He served our country. He did his time, completed all requirements. He was told his rights had been restored automatically, voted for over fifteen years, only to find out during the recent Republican voter purge that he wasn't eligible to vote (within 60 days of an election).

BY A GOVERNOR WHO BILKED THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF $600 MILLION OF DOLLARS IN MEDICARE FRAUD, WAS DISGRACED AND TERMINATED FROM HIS EMPLOYER FOR THE FRAUD?

A COMPANY THAT HAD TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT OVER $2 BILLION DOLLARS IN SETTLEMENTS?

And you think a vet who wrote two bad checks thirty years ago shouldn't vote?

Now that's stupid!

you're(ha) preaching to people who would happily take the vote from anyone who didn't vote the way they did..

and hold the Constitution while they did it..
