Seems like a Republican legislator from NH has what he thinks is the perfect solution for providing care to the mentally ill in his state for whom funding for care has (duh) been drastically reduced:

Quote
A 91-year-old freshman Republican state lawmaker suggested New Hampshire's mentally disabled should be shipped to Siberia and said he is unapologetic about the comment.

State Rep. Martin Harty of Barrington said he was kidding around with an unidentified woman caller who supported funding for the homeless when he raised the issue of eugenics and the world's population growth.

"I was kidding with her and it kind of got away from me," he said of the conversation. "It was a girl that wanted money for the crazy people, the people ... a good percentage of the homeless people are mentally disturbed."

He said he didn't know what to do with them.

"I said maybe they can rent a spot in Siberia off of Russia," he said. "She called me an Adolf Hitler and hung up on me. I never mentioned Hitler."

The comment came to light during a hearing Thursday on the state budget. It's not clear when the woman spoke to Harty.

Laurie McCray, a Portsmouth mother of a boy with medical needs who was testifying, told the House Finance Committee she was shocked when a friend told her a state representative from Barrington espoused shipping "defective people to Siberia to freeze." She did not name the friend or the lawmaker, who was later identified as Harty.

Harty did not deny making the comment or apologize later in a meeting with reporters.

Republican House Speaker William O'Brien said he hopes Harty considers his comments more carefully in the future. O'Brien said that at Harty's age, he has earned the right to say what he thinks, but "he needs to appreciate that as a representative, he will be held to a higher standard."

May I suggest we ship off all senile old Republicans (hello? Sen. McCain?) to Siberia instead?

Electing someone in their 90's? Yeah, that makes sense. During his lifetime they used to give people electric shock therapy. Oh wait, they actually still do that it's just called the war on a noun.

Catholic clergy have a mandatory retirement age, I believe its 75... they might be on to something with this.

I don't understand why exactly Hitler gets so much credit for being evil which he was. A conservative estimate of state sponsored genocides since his time is 260,000,000.

The mom goes to an Episcopal church and I thought that they were supposed to be a little bit more modern or something. Some of the parishioners have a huge problem with a gay bishop so he's resigning.

...

Hitler specifically targeted the mentally ill and infirm. I think it's not an unreasonable conclusion to draw. Just because other assholes have come along and killed people in the 70-odd years subsequent doesn't mean his evil deeds are somehow subsequently less evil.

True. I suppose the larger point is that society or the mass media in my opinion, focus on particular things like the holocaust to the detriment of events taking place in the present which could have something actually done about them.

(I didn't see this one coming)(Everyone knows what I mean) Smiley

Senile Old Fart Resigns

No. Not McCain!

Quote
A 91-year-old freshman lawmaker who suggested the mentally disabled should be shipped to Siberia resigned Monday from the state House and said he was sorry that his "big mouth caused this furor."

Rep. Martin Harty's comments came to light last week during testimony at a hearing on proposed cuts to the state budget. He said he was kidding around with a female caller who supported funding for the homeless when he raised the issue of eugenics and the world's population growth.

Ya'll do know that Huxley admitted that his book was not really fiction and based on what's really going on, don't you?
