Eh, both choices weren't really the best choices.  McAuliffe is shady with no experience in state politics and Cuccinelli was shady and thinks religion trumps secular.  So on the social mores end of the spectrum, Virginia at large won.  They won't have to worry about a fag hating, anti-christ believing, controlling women cadre sitting at the helm...but for everything else?...I guess Virginians will just have to wait and see.

I will note, however, that for all the religiously inspired crazy talk Cuccinelli's camp spewed and made no apologies for, for all the disenfranchisement he and his companions pretty much admitted they were going to undertake...that race was uncomfortably close. Just a 3 percentage point separation.  I'm not sure if that speaks more to how there could have been a better choice than McAuliffe, party line voting, or if that 45 percent number is a more or less accurate picture of how many find nothing wrong (or are in agreement with) someone who would Govern first and foremost THROUGH religion...and extremist religion to boot.
