(CNN) -- CBS correspondent Lara Logan apologized Friday and said the network was "wrong" for a "60 Minutes" report that raised questions about the Obama administration's response to last year's attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.
The assault left four Americans dead, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
"In this case, we were wrong. We made a mistake," Logan said on "CBS This Morning." "That's disappointing for any journalist. It's very disappointing for me."
A primary source for the "60 Minutes" report on October 27 was a security contractor using the pseudonym "Morgan Jones," later identified as Dylan Davies. Davies told CBS he was able to reach the Benghazi compound on the night of September 11, 2012, scale a wall and even fight off a militant.
Also on Friday, the publisher of a book containing Davies' account said it was suspending the sale and publication of the book. Threshold Editions, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, is recommending that booksellers not sell "The Embassy House" and return the books, spokeswoman Jennifer Robinson told CNN.
On Friday, Logan responded to questions from CBS's Norah O'Donnell, who pressed her for details about Davies.
"What we know now is, he told the FBI a different story to what he told us," Logan said. "That was the moment for us when we realized that we no longer had confidence in our source and we were wrong to put him on air, and we apologize to our viewers."
The CBS story first came into question because of an incident report filed by the contractor's employer, the Blue Mountain security company. The incident report, obtained by CNN and first reported in The Washington Post, said the contractor never reached the Benghazi compound.

here's what bothers me.. They knew going into it that the guy had given 2 different stories.. one to them and one to his boss.. He told them he lied to his boss because he didn't want to get fired..and they believed it... They also knew from other sources this guy was FOS...but they ran with it anyway.Even Fox news didn't run this guys story because he wanted money from them (so they say anyway)..everyone else who was approached by this guy got a hinky feeling from him so they all passed..
cbs OTOH? Nope.. they ran full-tilt at that brick wall and they now deserve the concussion they got from it.
This guy defines the entirety of the Benghazi situation.. the media wants soo fucking badly to make something out of an already tragic story. The real details aren't enough in 24hr news-land. There has to more terror-porn lurking in the back recesses of the story.. something overlooked, something forgotten, something..
anything
new that they can beat the other networks in getting out to us..In this case Fox news was 24/7 Obama/HRC killed Americans.. the other stations knew better and ignored it for awhile.. but eventually when the big dog, and unfortunately right-wing-media IS the big dog, when the big dog keeps hunting all the others finally try to get their piece of meal.. even if that means making shit up..
and why?
Because Cable News is a For-Profit business.. it's no longer 'independent'.. it's driven by greed..

Facts are the center. We don’t pretend that certain facts are in dispute to give the appearance of fairness to people who don’t believe them. Balance is irrelevant to me. It doesn’t have anything to do with truth, logic or reality.

and everyone who saw the original newscast and didn't bother reading the apologies now has the wrong info...and it will be floating on the internet forever...
five years from now "pass a prayer chain on for the people holed up in the embassy in Benghazi and hope that Davies gets to them in time!"
I can see it now...

At this time in our country, where division is especially high, misinformation isn't just an *oopsie* moment of bad reporting (purposeful or not) that scurries away when the general population, now corrected, laugh or admonish the sources or individuals who presented it, readjusting their reality back to their pre-bullshit reality...it's dangerous.
Normally you wouldn't give a shit if someone believes we never landed on the moon or that we've been visited by extraterrestrials, but it's being hidden...or that a French Cabal of shadow assassins was hired to take out President Kennedy...because at the end of the day, it didn't "affect us", not really. Government pissed us off, politicians butted heads and life, good and bad, continued forward. Now though, conspiracies, such as these...do affect us. Not this one, particularly in and of itself, but it in conjunction with so many other ones...sharing a common theme...that exist more because of visceral emotion about the hatred and loathing of one man, than the personal unacceptable realities conspiracies usually owe their existence and origins to.
Now it's a bunch of like minded, conspiracy eating citizens, elected as our Representatives in the halls of the Congress and the Senate. Ignoring them isn't an option, because personal opinion, in the form conspiracy, whose basis usually resides in intrigue and outside the realm of affecting every day life...is now born, believed and maintained from fear and anger...in a position of power that can. That...is dangerous. That is antithetical to any progress or at least attempts at it, especially when any progress is perceived to be tied directly to those conspiracies as a part of those conspiracies, woven into them and playing out, that must be stopped. It's a never ending circle of fuck.

All this week Chris Matthews has been on fire.. He's been visibly pissed... He even called Rand Paul a 'pissant' last night LOL. Each night he's gone on even more of an angry rant, on either this issue or obamacare, than usual.. Remember Old Olberman rants? Chris' have been angrier.. He's had Ron Regan on a cpl times and he's been pissed as well.. No one can figure out just wtf the goal is here. But what they can all agree on is the media is to blame with their incessant 'false equivalency' shit.
But this issue, this Benghazi... if you remember it all started the moment Mitt Romney insulted a sitting President
while we were being attacked and people were dying
in the hopes of scoring political points..He had his 'midnight press conference' for the sole reason to slam Obama.. Not send his thoughts to our people, but to slam Obama... To cover that completely UN patriotic,robot-like mistake the "Obama and HRC Killed them" popped up on Fox news.. and they beat that G'damn drum so loud that they got the other idiots to grudgingly talk about it until finally CBS, wanting to scoop Fox news of all people, airs what everyone else including Fox knows is a bullshit story..
and once again, the media is silent..
When Rather fucked up on Bush's military record.. it was headlines for days.. It's still today one of News-Tv biggest blunders.. and it's never been proven false. Claims were made that his papers were forged but noone has ever proven whether they were or not.... But on this issue? It didn't even make the local news.. it was out of MSM rotation last week with just a quick mention, maybe, Monday after 60mins aired their Mea Culpa..
I don't get the media's involvement in this.. I can understand why the Right is doing it. They want to discredit and nullify Obama... and if people get so terrified of him that they take a shot at him eh, wasn't us, it was him.. I get that, there's atleast a 'political' motive behind it.. but what is the media's motive here? Why are they so silent? Do they think the Tea Party ppl are going to like them eventually if they just keep giving false equivalencies? Are they that afraid of Palin calling them "Lame Stream Media"...? Why are they just so silent on all this crap?
