he five-day trip, with stops in Chile, Brazil and El Salvador, includes a meeting with Brazil's first female president, Dilma Rousseff, to discuss job creation.
Obama's wife and daughters joined him on the diplomatic mission, prompting right-wingers to suggest the President's tour was a vacation and a way to avoid coping with chaos in Libya and Japan.
"What is happening with the President while all of this is going on in the United States and around the world? He's going on vacation. He's going to Rio," charged Steve Doocy, cohost of "Fox & Friends," during Friday's broadcast.
And The Washington Times fired off an editorial last week that declared "the President parties while the world burns."
More...In particular, Newt Gingrich and Sean Hannity hammered the president over the trip, while New York Daily News columnist Andrea Tantaros said Obama has "priority issues" during an appearance on "The O'Reilly Factor."
The most incendiary optics, however, came by way of Fox Business host Eric Bolling, who spent a chunk of his program last night painting a picture of Obama as aloof and out of touch. During one bewildering stretch, he insisted that Obama would spend the trip with his wife "spreading suntan lotion on each other" and "sipping caipirinhas on Air Force One -- our Air Force One -- while Rome burns."
HOW DARE HE!I'm certainly glad my father didn't take his family along with him overseas while doing business for the government. Can you imagine what gawdawful things we children would have learned about foreign lands, their people, language and customs?
