Oy...Why in the world would a Catholic private school be so glaringly racist?

Quote
Officials at a Northern California private school are apologizing after a controversial lunch menu option to celebrate Black History Month.

Students at Carondelet High School for Girls in Concord wanted to come up with ways to observe the occasion during a lunchtime celebration Friday. But when the school announced a menu of fried chicken, cornbread and watermelon, other students and parents became offended.
KNTV-TV reports that school officials held an assembly on campus Wednesday to discuss the issue and also sent a letter apologizing to parents. Principal Nancy Libby wrote that the items were taken off of the menu and that the school doesn't perpetrate racial stereotypes.

If I eat those foods am I considered a racist?  I get the celebrate Black History Month screw-up, but please, I've eaten all of those as a meal for many years of my life and I'm a Cracker-ass Whitey.  Everyone is always looking for a way to be offended.

Lol...considering my atkins diet I was salivating reading that menu. Where's the cornbread!

It depends. Was it a bunch of white kids arriving at the decision after talking to a decent cross section of black kids? Were any black kids on the committee or group who decided?  Was it one or two black kids agreeing with Britney and Tanya, "So you all like fried chicken and stuff, right?"

Knowing the context the decision was arrived at would help me figure out if I might clench a little or not.

The meal itself isn't the issue - if it was served at any other time. But serving it as celebration of Black History Month is stupid.

On the plus side, they changed their minds....

wonder how many African American students they have, anyway?

Wow, it's $15,000+ a year. Wonder how many students period they have! That's a lot of money, at least in my opinion!

Obviously I still don't have a problem with the menu but I'd love to know how they came up with the menu. Did they sit around and say "What do the black people eat?" And then Lily White chimes in something about fried chicken et all then it's a stereotypem

Wait. I found a transcript of the meeting:

School Principal: OK, we need to do something to celebrate Black History Month. How about an art project with book reading covering the famous black Americans and their contribution to the country?

Sister Iwannanookie: Burp. Too much work. Why not a special lunch.

Father O'Diddle: Will there be lots of little boys there?

Principal: Sure, Father. *wink*

Sister Scissorgrind: I heard on FOX that the negroes like fried chicken and watermelon. How about we serve that for lunch one day?

Father O'Diddle: Can we have some sweet young Twinkies, too?

Principal: Sure, Father. *wink*

Meeting adjourned!

Yup, that's what I was trying to get at, but didn't do so well.

Living in the south, you come to understand that idiocy is pretty much just an every day thing.

I remember in Junior High and High School, that whenever fried chicken was the school lunch, you could count on at least one dumb fuck white kid to say, "Oh, N lunch today?", and you could just feel that dumb fuck oozing off their body. Because no white person, who lives in the south, has ever eaten fried chicken on a semi-regular basis...?  I mean the stupid hurt even way back then.  Oi.

Another response from me from elsewhere...

I find nothing wrong with the meal, either. What I do find wrong is the reasoning behind serving that particular meal.

Can anyone explain what the reasoning was behind it?

Certainly, none of the black students suggested it, cuz ya know, there ain't none.

Hell, not even on the basketball team!!!

After all, even the school has admitted to using racist stereotypes, why can't the board racists admit they did too?

But, that's ok. While we're serving up pics of delicious treats from around the world (except that crap that looked like crap on a plate) here's some positive proof no good cook like the beloved maid we had growing up, Lily White, had nothing to do with cooking the meal.

How the hell can you racist catholics make even fried chicken look bad?Huh??
