I guess the Governor doesn't realize he's trying to save the state money, or put people to work, or a bazillion other things he hasn't fucking done since taking office. Hasn't he been spending the day vetoing unnecessary shit on the budget???

But this? FUCKING INCREDIBLE!

Quote
Gov. Rick Scott has defended spending $8,800 to put his name on highway signs welcoming travelers to Florida.

The multimillionaire Republican is going through the state budget line by line looking for spending items to veto so he can save money for taxpayers.

But at a news conference Tuesday he said the signs are just fine.

Scott, who was elected in November, said the signs "look nice" and come with the job.

He said that job is to promote the state and having his name on the signs "is part of promoting the state."

Last time I checked, most states (that I've driven through at least) have the Gov's name on them. I assume those get reprinted every year. He's right, it's a customary part of the honor of holding the office.

It is a customary honor.  In the same way that, customarily, we have been honored with fire and education services.  Fuck him running and sideways.  I know the $8,800 is a drop in the bucket but it just looks so bad... particurally when has sharpened his pencil so severly everywhere else.  And he's spending money on inaguration parties and road signs for himself?  No.  Just fucking no.

That's fine, as long as we are drawing a line in the sand and say that no other Florida Governor should have his name on a roadsign.  I agree it seems unnecessary, but since every other Governor has done this before Scott, to bitch about it now seems merely petty.

Do me a favor. If this link doesn't work, just Google "State Welcome Signs". Other than Florida, I've seen one other with the governor's name on it.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&pq=how+many+states+have+governors+name+on+welcome+signs&xhr=t&q=state+welcome+signs&cp=10&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&wrapid=tljp1305842622895616&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1076&bih=494

In my 53 years, I've travelled through just about every state in the nation. I do not recall EVER seeing the governor's name on the welcome sign; normally there's a silly little phrase like those above have.

Regardless of whether it's a common practice or not, the irony of Mr. "Let's Get to Work" and save the state money spending (what was it? 100k) for his inauguration party and spending taxpayer money to put his fucking name on the state welcome sign is PRICELESS!

GODDAMN....I'll bet 50% of the people coming into the state and see his name turn around and leave!

"every other Governor" wasn't elected on a platform saying the state was going to hell in a financial handbag, either.

"every other Governor" didn't rape the schools of 30% (?) of their funding saying the state was broke.

"every other Governor" didn't fuck over the poor, elderly and disabled saying the state was broke.

So the only Florida Governor that you object to having his (or her!) name on a sign is Scott?

Sigh...

You responded to this statement of mine:

That's fine, as long as we are drawing a line in the sand and say that no other Florida Governor should have his name on a roadsign.  I agree it seems unnecessary, but since every other Governor has done this before Scott, to bitch about it now seems merely petty.

In this way...

"every other Governor" wasn't elected on a platform saying the state was going to hell in a financial handbag, either.

So in a word, yes.

I know Ohio and WV have them, as I crossed those state lines frequently in my past. I also know Indiana has it.
