My problem with the dealio is that I never held him to some impossible standards, but rather, that I held him to his own standards which were made quite evident every time he spoke.  You could feel his passion and commitment for fair play and "just" legislation and his utter shock and amazement when others in the house towed corporate desires and stuck to Luntz like lines (or inspired directly by) and mocked them and shamed them accordingly for their borg like resistance to operate in reality and not the alternate ayn rand universe they'd prefer.

He's a champion for many, perhaps unfairly promoted to that status based on societies need for hero worship.  Whether unduly crowned or not, he was the guy we rallied behind and said, "fuck yea!", when he'd point out the insanity that seems to be becoming unfortunately more and more pervasive.  His situation isn't ironically hypocritical because he never sat on panels that want to dictate morality nor was any of his energies spent waving around a religious codex that stipulate behavior...

...BUT...he's tainted now.  He's got a big ole Scarlet mark pinned to him.  He was always human, but he's no longer immune from being the guy who makes wonderful, passionate arguments on the average citizen's part...who just happens to also like to send out cock shots.  That dulls the edge.  

Immaturity and false equivalency are part of our discourse now...more so than ever.  He could give the most eloquent, heart felt, riveting oration ever...and his opponents and those entities who wish to quite him...can now just inject his groin pics as a counter.  That shouldn't change or have ANY impact on the truth or humanity that was being spoken...but it does...we let it, and that won't change anytime soon...and he won't be the catalyst who helps change that sophomoric pettiness that insists false equivalency is an actual argumentative point that has as much merit and belongs in the discussion as a valid counter...even though it has NOTHING to do with the discourse taking place.

We do it, they do it.  It's alive and well.  Obama get's it daily, hourly, by the minute..."His policy sucks, because he uses a teleprompter!"  That makes absolutely no fucking sense...yet, it is submitted and allowed by those who disagree with him...as a legitimate contrasting point of contention with WHY it's a flawed policy.  

Congressman Wiener is damaged goods now as a voice that cuts across party lines, because frothing foaming mouths were at the ready waiting for the SECOND they could insert false equivalency to oppose his views/stances...where they were devoid of intelligent counter points...NOW they're STILL devoid of actual counter points...but they don't need them.

"Well Tom, you can believe me...or the guy who sends dick shots to young women...I'm just say'in."  The dick shots have ZERO to do with ANY debate as substantive material, but that doesn't matter in our current climate.
