This guy's gotta be as crazy or crazier as Bachmann...but he does have all the libertarians-of-convenience supporting him because he's their token black dude, soo....

Basically, what the crackpot is saying is that since all Muslims want to interject Shariah Law into our country they aren't entitled to 1st amendent rights...therefore can't build those pesky mosques anywhere...

Quote
WALLACE: [C]ouldn’t any community then say we don’t want a mosque in our community?

CAIN: They could say that. Chris, let’s go back to the fundamental issue that the people are basically saying that they are objecting to. They are objecting to the fact that Islam is both religion and of set of laws, Sharia law. That’s the difference between any one of our other traditional religions where it’s just about religious purposes. The people in the community know best. And I happen to side with the people in the community.

WALLACE: So, you’re saying that any community, if they want to ban a mosque.

CAIN: Yes, they have the right to do that. That’s not discriminating based upon religion — against that particular religion.

If he could have somehow worked in Jesus, abortion and gays into the speech, it would have hit the neo-con cycle and been worth 1000 crazy points.

I hear he's had the family tree traced all the way back to Uncle Tom.

I have to be honest, and I know I'm kicking the beehive with this comment, but SHIT.

When I've already gone through all my normal internet stops for the day, done some laundry and the dishes, I think: "I guess I might pop in & see whats going on with that sideshoot board." It's kind of reluctant though.

So I come over here. And I read a thread. MAYBE two. I might make a comment. Maybe.

But before too long, I read something like this:

Quote
I hear he's had the family tree traced all the way back to Uncle Tom.

And then what is my reaction?

Well, I write out a reply--and then I delete it, because I get halfway through and think "oh, fuck THIS shit."

So, I click this instead:

why?  posting with Darth since your teen years didn't immune you to dark-comedy?

I hear he's had the family tree traced all the way back to Uncle Tom.

makes you logout

but years of..

Just another uppity mouthy fuckin Niggrah with a tude.

Quote
Say anything about paying for music in front of my mutants or their friends and they look at you like a mutha fuckin Niggrah looks at a math test.

didn't phase you at all?

I really think we might need to reassess what we  expected to get here.. I kinda figured things would be said, fought, joked about, played, hurled angrily etc etc etc here the same way it has always been everywhere else we've all posted together.. with some slight exceptions sure, but for t he most part, the same.. Some days will be darth-like comments, some days will have crowd like obtuseness...some will even have -fu like comedy... except those playing those parts will be all of us since we're the ones here.... But that not only doesn't seem to be the case most of the time with some of the people, but the prejudgement that goes on has me not posting anything for fear of someone 'not getting' me here when they've gotten me for 10 freaking years there..

so I've got to ask... wtf?

WTF for real.

So are you saying that comment was "Darth" in its meaning? Because to me, it read like a bitchy, nasty, snipping comment from a liberal who dislikes the man because of his political ideals, and attacked him for something completely unrelated to his political position, just to be catty and "witty". That's not intelligent or civil. It's also not harmonious, or peaceful. --Oh wait, I'm sure it was just a joke, right?

Howey is not Darth, in really any respect. I'm not comparing the two, and I am not coming to this board expecting that--especially not from some moderator who wants respectful, intelligent conversation in one hand, and racial or political slurs on the other. Darth is what he is in his posts, and always has. Through the years, most people have seen a different side of him in private interactions, but his board persona is pretty much steady. Sometimes crude humor is humor--and other times its close enough to hate to be uncomfortable. Guess which category "I hear he's traced his family all the way back to Uncle Tom" falls into. Howey is physically unable to contain his obvious disgust & bias towards conservatives in his postings (I'd love to see the edit logs for this board, because I know I've seen some real doozy comments appear, then disappear) -- adding a crude racial joke into the mix about one of them is probably not a good idea. If someone had said that about Obama, guess what the reaction would be? Exactly the same. If it's inappropriate to say about our black president, it doesn't make it right when it's directed towards someone on the other party. Oh, but "conservatives are AFRAID of 'Our Town'", so when it's pointed at a neo-con, it's cool.

You know what would have thrown me for a loop? If Darth had hauled off and created a board espoused to be full of respectful, intelligent discussion, and then proceeded to do exactly the opposite.

Kelly, you're not two-faced--you and I have had private conversations regarding some of the stuff that has happened here, and I 100% get your perspective on it. And I am pretty sure you know mine too. And maybe my personal reaction to Howey and his previous behaviors have tainted my perspective of what he's posting--but there IS a difference between a tongue-in-cheek or crude joke, and a comment that really does seem hatefully inappropriate. I don't think anyone should have to second-guess what they're posting, but they should also be able to understand when someone may go "THE FUCK?" at something they've said. I've censored myself multiple times, for a couple of different reasons.

Here's my view: If you're going to mod/op a board that you want to run with a sense of respect, intelligence, and dignity---then don't post shit like this.

I wonder if there's some board that I'm unable to see, where Howey talks shit about me behind my back because I disagreed with him...

edit: I don't want to be THAT asshole on every board that always comes running with the PC Police to jump on someone's shit for an off-color comment. But you can't talk out of one side about "promoting peaceful co-existance" and then make racial slurs with the other.

Allow me to be honest for a moment too. Was this a fucking sideshoot board when you wanted a safe little haven to address your concerns with converting to Catholicism?

Was it a convenient way to air your concerns in a place the bf wouldn't see, like the muche?

Another thing...what's with this "sideshoot" shit, Puffy? We're not a sideshoot of anything, tyvm. One FaFa post here displays more intelligence than fifteen silly giggly crazy cat lady post over there, or the multitude of stupid polls.

Just ask the folks over there...

if it weren't for our games this bored would no longer have any posts...

Wait You'e back. Trying to tell the owner of the forum how to run it, huh?  Better be fuckin glad you didn't try that elsewhere or you'd be banned and face countless others declaring stuff like "It's not your forum...blah.blah blah..."

I won't tell you that...nor will anyone else here...nor will anyone here tell you they hope  you die of AIDS or throw threats of physical violence your way, either...

It'ss funny though...I remember a time when I made a similar throwaway comment over there, you hit the ceiling with your pretend indignation...forgetting you and others were guilty of a greater offense elsewhere.

Just remember...if you don't like intelligent conversation or throw away jokes, be my guest and...

Wow...that hurt more than Puffy's diatribe..

why...was she talking about you ?

what i like to do is instantly respond...

then i delete it...walk away...burn a few calories

give it some thought...examine perspectives...put on a different pair of shoes

go for a walk...then...then

i type a post...sometimes i read it and discard...other times i hit enter...

a throw away joke "hurts someone somewhere"...not that there's a need for censorship...but

as the figure head or representitve....one must understand the power of their posts...

Your post about Tom...a revered Uncle...to many...skirts along the same lines as what happened

in this paticular thread... http://popculturedoneright.smfforfree.com/index.php/topic,161.0.html

would you not agree ?

Listen...i understand that a lifetime of hate and barbs...and all that you've had to endure...

and still endure can cause a person to inadvertantly participate in the very thing they

find wrong...it happens...

sometimes its done on purpose...other times...without consciously being aware of it...

none the less...it boils down to whether we learn anything from it and how we manage what it

was that we learned...

the power of language...words...is intense...you shouldn't edit yourself...but one should choose

wisely when addressing possibly the whole world....

Good advice. While you're simmering down and allowing the Midol to kick in, google "Herman Cain Uncle Tom". It should keep you occupied for a few hours. Smiley

Oh look, it's more of that "peaceful co-existence" bullshit.
