I hear he's had the family tree traced all the way back to Uncle Tom.

WTF for real.

So are you saying that comment was "Darth" in its meaning? Because to me, it read like a bitchy, nasty, snipping comment from a liberal who dislikes the man because of his political ideals, and attacked him for something completely unrelated to his political position, just to be catty and "witty". That's not intelligent or civil. It's also not harmonious, or peaceful. --Oh wait, I'm sure it was just a joke, right?

Howey is not Darth, in really any respect. I'm not comparing the two, and I am not coming to this board expecting that--especially not from some moderator who wants respectful, intelligent conversation in one hand, and racial or political slurs on the other. Darth is what he is in his posts, and always has. Through the years, most people have seen a different side of him in private interactions, but his board persona is pretty much steady. Sometimes crude humor is humor--and other times its close enough to hate to be uncomfortable. Guess which category "I hear he's traced his family all the way back to Uncle Tom" falls into. Howey is physically unable to contain his obvious disgust & bias towards conservatives in his postings (I'd love to see the edit logs for this board, because I know I've seen some real doozy comments appear, then disappear) -- adding a crude racial joke into the mix about one of them is probably not a good idea. If someone had said that about Obama, guess what the reaction would be? Exactly the same. If it's inappropriate to say about our black president, it doesn't make it right when it's directed towards someone on the other party. Oh, but "conservatives are AFRAID of 'Our Town'", so when it's pointed at a neo-con, it's cool.

You know what would have thrown me for a loop? If Darth had hauled off and created a board espoused to be full of respectful, intelligent discussion, and then proceeded to do exactly the opposite.

Kelly, you're not two-faced--you and I have had private conversations regarding some of the stuff that has happened here, and I 100% get your perspective on it. And I am pretty sure you know mine too. And maybe my personal reaction to Howey and his previous behaviors have tainted my perspective of what he's posting--but there IS a difference between a tongue-in-cheek or crude joke, and a comment that really does seem hatefully inappropriate. I don't think anyone should have to second-guess what they're posting, but they should also be able to understand when someone may go "THE FUCK?" at something they've said. I've censored myself multiple times, for a couple of different reasons.

Here's my view: If you're going to mod/op a board that you want to run with a sense of respect, intelligence, and dignity---then don't post shit like this.
