The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers

If you came up with that, my friend - the funniest thing I've ever read on this forum (excluding my Message from God, of course - then you are in the wrongo field. Bravo!

Now...after a Google search I tried to find one Republican, in Arizona or not, who has the sense to oppose this. None. Zip. Nada. Nyet. Nein.

This is what I found:

Comments elsewhere...

I particularly liked this one:

Quote
Focus on jobs, not a raffled gun

It continues to amaze me how out of touch our leaders are dealing with political activities.

Raffling a gun is not only in poor taste, it demonstrates the mentality of those supporting and help electing our officials.

Yes, it is true that guns do not kill people, but without a gun people cannot shoot people.

Need to raise money? Then have a job raffle.

Thousands will buy a ticket. Give a job in your office for a year, as an example.

Guns over jobs is a poor selection on this Labor Day weekend.

No I am just tired of people defending stupid all in the name of politics. It is like we are run by stubbon assholes and those are the worst people to hang out with, in life, I ignore those people but now I am stuck with them leading the country.
Here is how it went down in Arizona.
Clueless GOP guy, " Hey lets raffle off a glock, shows we are pro-gun and can raise some money.
Rational GOP guy " Hey, wait a cotton pickin minute. Don't Glocks have a shitty grip angle and isn't that the same gun that was used at the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords. I mean we are in the same county. It might be a little tasteless to raffle off that gun. How about maybe a rifle or some candles?"
Clueless GOP guy "Fuck those pansie ass liberals, who voted for Barry Hussein, The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers, we have rights to guns. If it was up to those pinkos we have 105% of wages taxed, speaking ebonics, make Mexico the 51st state and I would be unable to protect myself with a gun. Paul Revere told the British they were not taking our guns, it is our GOD given right to have guns and our forefathers fought for that right.
Rational GOP guy " (thinking to himself), (Fuck what happened to my party and this country. ) What about the media coverage, they are going to jump all over this?
Clueless GOP Guy "What like MSNBC is a media outlet. That left wing monkey show thinks Barry was born in America. Watch they will turn this into a race issue. Those lefties love playing the race. I know some blacks and am not racist. They can't date my daughter but some blacks are all right and I am not racist. Hey you ever see that Obama joke where he is eating watermelon? Give me your email address and I will send it to you.  "
Rational GOP Guy (thinking to himself, the guy is fucking nuts) " Hey I got to go, I told my wife that I would be home by now. Good Luck with that raffle"
FIN

I agree with your take Nutty.

My Grandfather was a life long Republican.  I'm sure, if he were still alive today, he'd be labeled a Liberal or Rino.  I remember back in the mid 90's, during Clinton's Presidency, I had just stopped by one particular day to hang out with him.  As I was coming in the door, I could hear my grandfathers voice, who was an otherwise soft spoken individual, booming from the back of the house.  I headed towards the back of the house, where he could usually be found listening to his A.M. talk shows and doing string art.

As I entered the room he was in, I asked, "You alright?"  He turned around, with a combination look of bewilderment and disgust and said, "I'm never listening to this man again...you don't make tasteless comments about people's children, even people you don't care for."  I was like, "Huh?  Who said something?"

He went on to tell me he was listening to Rush, who he had been listening to for several years at that point, and that Rush had just compared or insinuated that the Clinton's daughter Chelsea was like a dog or is a dog because of her awkward teenage looks.  It greatly upset him and he said he'd never listen to him again...and he never did.  I imagine by the current standards today, he wouldn't be someone who disagreed, but a turncoat.

He was a man who could concede a point and make one without demagogging or needing to side bar into rhetoric that drifted quickly away from the original point of conversation.  There wasn't a "need" to "win" the debate, but merely illuminate it and perhaps learn something in the process.  He valued common sense greatly and never ever let his ideology interrupt his thought process, nor have the last word in his answers.

I loved him dearly and he taught me a great deal.  I'm definitely liberal in my view of the world, but he taught me to never be so rigid ideologically, that I became unable to question or disagree with that view, or elements within it...should it be necessary.

I can say with absolute certainty that my Grandfather, if he were still alive, would have been amazed at Obama's election and he would have voted for him, if he felt he were the best person for the job.  He also taught me to never vote ideologically, but for the person who I thought would do the greatest good.  Because at the end of the day, the nations people and it's well being took precedence over everything else.  He probably wouldn't like Obama's need to compromise and play a typical Washington footsies that is the norm now...but his dislike would be grounded only on that premise.  Race and ideology would have nothing to do with it.

Again, as I said before...today he'd probably be viewed as a fake Republican or closet liberal/progressive.

I miss that ole man.  He kept my head on straight.
