Romney's Tax Return
«

Wow. Talk about elite! For a guy who bragged about being "unemployed" he sure has brought in the bucks for doing nothing! How about the Swiss bank account? Caymans? Ireland? and more?
Know what's even funnier? Republicans have a choice between Mittens and the guy who can't pay his exorbitant bill at the jewelers.

The Caymans holdings and holdings in a Swiss bank account - which was closed in 2010 after
an adviser decided it could be politically embarrassing to Romney
- were reported on tax returns and were not vehicles to avoid taxes, the advisers said.
ya think?

The State of the Union tonight should be
Must See TV!
Quote
I’m not sure the Obama campaign could have scripted this more perfectly. In a remarkable bit of good timing, President Obama is set to deliver a State of the Union speech focused on income inequality and tax unfairness on exactly the same day that Mitt Romney will reveal that he made over $40 million in the last two years — all of it taxed at a lower rate than that paid by middle class taxpayers. […]
Romney doesn’t just disagree with Obama on these fundamental issues; he personally symbolizes virtually the entire 2012 Democratic message. He is the walking embodiment of everything Dems allege is wrong with our system and the ways it’s rigged in favor of the wealthy and against the middle class. Yet this is the standard bearer the GOP seems set to pick.

Remember when the Democratic base was upset that John Kerry has a 13.1 effective tax rate?

Kerry was a buffoon and that was the least of most Democrats worries.
I will say this though, the swiftboating of him was disgusting.

Romney is fucked. Most Americans really don't give a shit that he's a millionaire many times over. They like to dream (and many aspire to) one day reach those type of numbers. Hell, from those specific returns, it even looks like he was more charitable than the Obama's...
...BUT...those returns were the embodiment of a major discourse taking place. Are we a society that provides the instruments and the means to enrich others, that in turn benefits the society locally and at large...or are we a society that that provides the instruments and the means to enrich others who make little or no effort to re-infuse that good fortune back into the local or national community where it was derived. Because as far as I know, that shit didn't come from thin air.
It's like Jenga. Instead of putting pieces back as one is taken out, you literally destabilize the foundation and like the game...eventually that shit crashes. What good does making money, off of money, do for society? It's stability? What good does it do to allow people to build incredibly vast sums of wealth if society in general suffers as a result? You can make 500 million dollars off of a hedge fund, a year, and pay 15 percent on capital gains. That is the epitome of the biggest FUCK YOU to the society that made your wealth possible I can think of. Everyone keeps acting like they made all their shit entirely on their own and as far as I know, the society where you derived it, made it possible through it's structure and resources in various ways. Remove both and you don't have anyone to pay for your shit or facilitate your ideas/work.
So what's the big idea? We'll shrink Government, which sounds great on the face of it, until you get into the details. Who needs the fuckin EPA, who needs SS, who needs Medicare/Medicade, on and on and on. I got my shit, fuck you. I don't give a fuck HOW wealthy this society made me, the rest of you can suck it. Yea, I used foodstamps once. Yea, I used unemployment once. Yea, I used assistance once. But I'm in the big leagues now, so lick my hairy balls! You know who I create work for, my bankers and my investment guy, I'm a job creator baby, hahahaha, WOOT!

Facts are the center. We don’t pretend that certain facts are in dispute to give the appearance of fairness to people who don’t believe them. Balance is irrelevant to me. It doesn’t have anything to do with truth, logic or reality.

He and his wife filed separately at least in 2003 (maybe other years) because of the Presidential race to keep her fortune off the books. It became a political issue anyway, but Kerry's separate return was just taxes paid on his Senate salary and a few other things, with no mention of the fact that he was a millionaire and wasn't taxed as such, since of course all he had to do that year was realize capital gains from his wife's investments not his. If you don't realize anything, your effective tax rate could be zero.
But combined they had an effective tax rate
below
the 15% capital gains tax! That's amazing! Those crazy one percenters...

I think you and.your comrades just don't understand the gripe isn't with the money, it's the greed that goes with it, as well as.compassion for those less fortunate.
Incredible that you would fault Teresa Heinz her millions through inheritance but defend the guy who got off on firing people.

I don't fault her millions. Frankly I'm not sure how you got that idea. Sometimes I think you read things in my posts that I don't write. But as you said, she inherited it. Why do you find that better than the guy who actually earned his?

Romney earned it? By firing people. I respect Heinz because, unlike Mittens, she recognizes what the word
compassion
is.
Quote
Today, the foundations she oversees are widely known for developing innovative strategies to protect the environment, improve education, enhance the lives of young children, broaden economic opportunity and promote the arts. Pittsburgh civic leaders have repeatedly praised Teresa Heinz for her many contributions to the city and to western Pennsylvania.
The Heinz Endowments, based in Pittsburgh, is among the largest independent philanthropic organizations in America. Last year, the foundation approved more than $70 million in grants to non-profit organizations, mostly concentrated within southwestern Pennsylvania, in the program areas of Arts & Culture; Children, Youth and Families; Economic Opportunity; Education; and the Environment.
Do you really think Romney wouldn't have given the Mormon church all those millions if he didn't
have to
? Of course, he could have wanted to in support of their homophobia campaign.
