If my memory serves me correctly...didn't Rumsfeld dump (or at least play a major role in) certain standards for military eligibility being nixed, that included individuals who had a past of being sexually violent/suspect, allowing them access?...all to avoid a situation involving the draft? I swear I remember a ruckus about it.

Yes and yes to both questions. I remember starting a thread on the muche about the lax recruitment standards Bush and Rummy pushed to get more bodies over to Iraq so they could be killed too. They were allowing gang members, murderers and drug addicts in the Army, but **shudder** none of them homos!
