Top 10 Shocking Attacks from the GOP's War on Women
1) Republicans not only want to reduce women's access to abortion care, they're actually trying to redefine rape. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven't yet. Shocker.

2) A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to "accuser." But victims of other less gendered crimes, like burglary, would remain "victims."

3) In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder a doctor who provides abortion care. (Yep, for real.)

4) Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids.

5) In Congress, Republicans have a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life.

6) Maryland Republicans ended all county money for a low-income kids' preschool program. Why? No need, they said. Women should really be home with the kids, not out working.
7) And at the federal level, Republicans want to cut that same program, Head Start, by $1 billion. That means over 200,000 kids could lose their spots in preschool.

Cool Two-thirds of the elderly poor are women, and Republicans are taking aim at them too. A spending bill would cut funding for employment services, meals, and housing for senior citizens.

9) Congress just voted for a Republican amendment to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers, one of the most trusted providers of basic health care and family planning in our country.

10) And if that wasn't enough, Republicans are pushing to eliminate all funds for the only federal family planning program. (For humans. But Republican Dan Burton has a bill to provide contraception for wild horses. You can't make this stuff up).

I'm putting this thought here because it doesn't seem worth a whole new thread but every time I see a clip online from Judge N on Fox I find him sound and level headed. I thought maybe some of you might know more about his background because I don't feel like searching for it but I'm all for the constitution and that seems to be his basis for thought and commentary.

Real rape.

With the exception of #5, I believe ekg and I knew of the others. Some are discussed here.

Let the crazy Republicans attempt to destroy the middle class and poor all they want to for now. In a little less than two years, it will be the Republican Party destroyed by their own hands.

Case  in point:

From jb's long stint with unemployment, we already knew one little trick of Florida unemployment: In this state, as opposed to every other fucking state (thanks Jeb!) your UC application expires after one year. Which means that you have to reapply every year.

What's wrong with that, you ask? The amount of UC you receive is based on your salary for the first three quarters of the previous year. If all you drew was UC during those three quarters, can you imagine what your UC would be?

Anyhow...the latest rape of the poor and unemployed - at the hands of the Florida legislature:

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2011/03/10/business-financial-impact-us-fl-unemployment-compensation_8348658.html

Quote
Florida's jobless may soon find the going even tougher as the Florida House moves quickly toward passing a bill that would sharply reduce state unemployment benefits.

The House is set to vote Thursday on its proposal (HB 7005) that is designed to reduce unemployment compensation taxes that businesses pay, and reduces the limit on state benefits from 26 to 20 weeks. The state pays a maximum of $275 monthly in addition to federal unemployment assistance, which lasts up to 99 weeks

"These are people who have to feed their families, clothe themselves and they are trying to not lose their homes to foreclosures," said Rep. Geraldine Thompson, an Orlando Democrat who offered an amendment aimed at getting more federal grant money.

But Republicans hold an 81-39 advantage in the Florida House and used that muscle Wednesday to reject a handful of amendments aimed at softening the blow to those jobless workers who depend solely on their unemployment checks to pay bills.
Oh. They don't fucking care about that!

Quote
"The intent of this bill is to reduce taxes on businesses to help our businesses recover," said Rep. Doug Holder, a Sarasota Republican and real estate broker who sponsored the bill. "It's about tax relief, to save more jobs so that more people aren't added to the unemployment system."

Did you hear about the state bill, I think in GA, that would require criminal investigations of miscarriages?

Top 10 Shocking Attacks from the GOP's War on Women

it's kinda shocking isn't it?  I mean, you could almost pass it off as another 'conspiracy' if it wasn't so blatant.. It's like the whole taxing the poor, the elderly and those who donate to public schools to offset a tax-break for the rich and businesses.. it's reads like a conspiracy out of some Grisham novel when in fact, it's happening right now in Michigan...

I'm trying to figure out how all these people got elected on this taxing the poor and elderly to fund tax-breaks for the wealthy/women have no rights campaigns.. because all I seem to remember is everyone in the GOP screaming how they were going to create jobs, how if the people would trust them, they would make life better for everyone..

I guess that 'everyone' had a limit that was decided by their wealth..

anyway, women will eventually say something.. not that anyone will listen.. people like Palin and Bachmen will mock them like usual.. but the elderly are vamping up with an aarp sponsored rally on Tuesday..maybe if they joined together with the women's group someone would pay attention to them...

and ya know, a part me is saying "you get what you deserve" to some of these groups that are now realizing the shit-storm they created..especially the elderly.. ya know this whole mess is ya'll fault for believing Fox news.. same with the everyday 'working man'..ya know the 'Joe the plumbers' of the world.. they deserve what they get.. it's just too bad the rest of us get fucked along with them..

well I mean sure, all these 'UI gov't teet addicts' making the grand sum of $394(after taxes) every 17 days are just enjoying their free ride..

seriously, we already have I think the lowest UI rate in the country.. hell Hawaiians get something like $500 a week.. we get $719 a month...  and they expect people going from $500 a week to be able to live off $700 a month? and not only are they able to 'adjust' they do so at their own pleasure because it's so grand to collect such a pittance?

how much more will we give 'business' to entice them to hire? what do they want? end of all labor laws. Children working? No minimum wage? women can be sexually harassed again?  just exactly how much more do we need to give them to so they'll finally 'uncork' their 'fear and dread of Obama and his socialism' and start hiring/investing again..

No, no, no! He has the perfect master plan!

Put everyone on UC and all the poor people* to work destroying our wetlands and state parks to build fucking golf courses for him and his rich goddam buddies to play on!

*Either that, or make sure there's a waiver in the pending illegal immigrant bill for golf course workers along with the maids and gardeners. Wink
