What is the difference between a Libertarian and a libertarian?

One of the idiots at tPF says they're too different things.

sounds like the tpf person has been hallucinating...

although, to be fair, Catholic (the religion) and catholic (embracing a wide variety of tastes) are two different things.

So maybe capital L is the political party, small l is belief in the doctrine of free will... we all know the political party doesn't believe in free will in many cases.

Yah, the difference is beyond my pay grade.  It sounds too much like How many angels can dance on the point of a pin? to me - & I never was all that good @ Scholasticism.  Even though it elaborated theology & all, just not my cuppa.

Maybe someone else can explain the difference - always assuming that there is one.

I always thought the difference between the two was that one was ultra Ayn Rand, proffering the idea that Utopia and anarchy could be magically melded together into a non-conflicting entity where both the have and have nots exist together harmoniously in a feudal system relaunch 2.0...

...and one was Ayn Randian lite, acknowledging that at least the gov. doesn't exist only as a function to protect and serve the haves primarily. And that rules do have a place beyond just servicing the haves.

Although, Ayn Rand lite still operates under the notion that selfishness and whim are the ultimate expression of freedom.

Oh, and pot.
