During last night's debate, Ron Paul was asked about a hypothetical young male who foregoes health insurance, then suffers a major medical catastrophe.

"Are you saying society should just let him die?"

Listen to what the audience has to say...

I know RP has a great voting record and is often not mentioned as a front runner but I'm not for any of them. What is your answer to the question of a 30 year old with those conditions?

I find it amazing that we've come such a long way as a species.  Living through turbulent time after turbulent time and here we are today, millions of years later, countless groups, societies and civilizations later...and many of us STILL can't find the humanity that ensured our presence here today....our bond, our link forged through countless trials of adversity is becoming eroded...again.  Tested against a mindset that values self over the whole.

I imagine if we had not learned to work together and care for our ill, but had been a species dominated solely by the thought process that reared it's head last night from those members of the audience...I doubt we'd be here to even have this discussion.  We'd have died off long ago.

"Personal Responsibility" is being taken to one of those extremes that straight lines past all levels of compassion.  It's scarey stuff.

Ron Paul got booed for his foreign policy.
RP is an OG libertarian, he walks the walk. I don't agree with all his ideas but at least he is consistent. Some of his ideas are really good, and so good all the other candidates are stealing them.

Crazy Cat Lady put GW Bush version 2.0 on front street about his Merk connections. I am suprised Bush v 2.0 did not try to make his eyes bleed to appeal to the God Warriors after they booed his azz.
Huntsman made a freaking Nirvana reference, what is this the 1990's.
Newt did well again and is angling for a VP spot.
Romney managed to stay above the fray. Great line about playing poker.
Rick Santorum please go away.

Santorum, even in this minor league, is completely out of his element.

I agree with your RP assessment.  He walks the walk.  I can't say I agree with the majority of his Libertarian views, but there are some good ones in the mix.  When he jumped on board the abortion train, I felt he really stepped away from the core principal of Libertarianism.

Huntsman, like Romney, just comes off a tad bit to smarmy for me.  Even if I had no clue to their backgrounds, I doubt I would perceive them differently...if I had a sit down with either.

Newts an intelligent man, no getting around the fact...but intelligence isn't going to wash over the fact that he seems interested in applying the least amount of effort and enthusiasm into his bid for a nod.  At this point...he just the guy at the party, sitting in the background, who chimes in with an occasional zinger...but even then...no one really wants to get to know him better.

Crazy God Warrior Bachman wasted no time at all, getting on one of the morning shows saying she was approached by woman who said Gov. Perry's forced vaccines made her daughter retarded.  Michele seems to do this quite a bit, "Someone said, a man said, a woman said, many people say."  Before you put your weight behind a statement that was made to you, you better be damn sure the information you received was accurate.  She seems to have zero worries about coming off looking like an idiot.

This made me laugh.

What hath Rick wrought?

Quote
“And if you’re saying that I can be bought for $5,000, I’m offended,”

Soo...how much does it take to buy Rick Perry then?

Quote
In fact, Merck PAC — the company’s Washington, D.C.-based political action committee — has given Perry $28,500 since 2001, according to Texas Ethics Commission filings.

The bulk of that money came before 2007, when the governor signed an executive order mandating all sixth-grade girls in the state to receive the Gardasil vaccine against HPV. The move rankled social conservatives and the mandate was ultimately overturned by the Legislature.

But wait...there's more!

Quote
But dollars aside, Perry has another key tie to Merck, one also alluded to by Bachmann in the debate: his former top aide Mike Toomey.

For three decades, Toomey has been an Austin fixture, serving as a political operative of all stripes: a three-term state representative, chief of staff to Gov. Bill Clements and later Perry, and a deeply connected Republican lobbyist.

When Perry signed the Gardasil executive order in 2007, Toomey, who was no longer working in the governor’s office, was a lobbyist for Merck, the vaccine’s manufacturer. Opponents to the order cried foul; the governor’s office has maintained that Toomey exercised no clout in the decision.

Toomey’s client roster counts some of the largest industries in Texas, including healthcare (United Health), telecommunications (AT&T) and wind power (Green Mountain Energy).

And although he has no official role in the governor’s presidential campaign, Toomey is a co-founder of the pro-Perry super PAC Make Us Great Again, which can solicit unlimited funds from individuals and corporations to advocate for his old boss.

I wish Wolf would have said "What if it was your 30yro son?"  as a follow up to the audience members..

But, you have to give those people credit, they actually had the balls to say what many others(that I'm sure we all know) feel but are afraid to say.. of course that answer only goes for other people's family/friends and not their own-HA!, because their own should have the Presidential health care..whether they pay for it or not..

Facts are the center. We don’t pretend that certain facts are in dispute to give the appearance of fairness to people who don’t believe them.  Balance is irrelevant to me.  It doesn’t have anything to do with truth, logic or reality. ~Charlie Skinner (the Newsroom)
